HEPGRID2001 : A Model of a Virtual Data Grid Application / Holtman, Koen (Caltech)
Future high energy physics experiments will require huge distributed computational infrastructures, called data grids, to satisfy their data processing and analysis needs. This paper records the current understanding of the demands that will be put on a data grid around 2006, by the hundreds of physicists working with data from the CMS experiment. [...]

Views of CMS Event Data : Objects, Files, Collections, Virtual Data Products ; rev. version / Holtman, Koen (HEP, Caltech, Pasadena, USA)
The CMS data grid system will store many types of data maintained by the CMS collaboration. An important type of data is the event data, which is defined in this note as all data that directly represents simulated, raw, or reconstructed CMS physics events. [...]

CMS Data Grid System Overview and Requirements / Holtman, Koen (Caltech, Passadena, USA)
This document gives a comprehensive overview of the data grid system that CMS intends to operate around December 2003. This CMS data grid system will support both CMS production and analysis and will seamlessly tie together resources at CERN and at international CMS regional centers. [...]

Virtual Data in CMS Production / Arbree, A. (Florida U.) ; Avery, P. (Florida U.) ; Bourilkov, D. (Florida U.) ; Cavanaugh, R. (Florida U.) ; Katageri, S. (Florida U.) ; Rodriguez, J. (Florida U.) ; Graham, G. (Fermilab) ; Voeckler, J. (Chicago U.) ; Wilde, M. (Argonne)
Initial applications of the GriPhyN Chimera Virtual Data System have been performed within the context of CMS Production of Monte Carlo Simulated Data. The GriPhyN Chimera system consists of four primary components: 1) a Virtual Data Language, which is used to describe virtual data products, 2) a Virtual Data Catalog, which is used to store virtual data entries, 3) an Abstract Planner, which resolves all dependencies of a particular virtual data product and forms a location and existence independent plan, 4) a Concrete Planner, which maps an abstract, logical plan onto concrete, physical grid resources accounting for staging in/out files and publishing results to a replica location service. File and object replication in data grids / Stockinger, H E ; Samar, A ; Allcock, B ; Foster, I ; Holtman, K ; Tierney, B L
Data replication is a key issue in a data grid and can be managed in different ways and at different levels of granularity: for example, at the file level or the object level. In the high-energy physics community, data grids are being developed to support the distributed analysis of experimental data. [...]
