A Large Diameter Entrance Window for the LHC Beam Dump Line / Presland, Andrew ; Goddard, Brennan ; Jiménez, J M ; Ramos, D ; Veness, Raymond
The graphite LHC beam dump block TDE has to absorb the full LHC beam intensity at 7 TeV. The TDE vessel will be filled with inert gas at atmospheric pressure, and requires a large diameter entrance window for vacuum separation from the beam dumping transfer line. [...]

Design of the LHC Beam Dump Entrance Window / Veness, R ; Goddard, B ; Massidda, L ; Mathot, S J ; Presland, A
7 TeV proton beams from the LHC are ejected through a 600 m long beam dump transfer line vacuum chamber to a beam dump block. The dump block is contained within an inert gas-filled vessel to prevent a possible fire risk. [...]

Dynamic Stresses in the LHC TCDS Diluter from 7 TeV Beam Loading / Goddard, B ; Massidda, L ; Presland, A ; Weterings, W
In the event of an unsynchronised beam abort, the MSD extraction septum of the LHC beam dumping system is protected from damage by the TCDS diluter. The simultaneous constraints of obtaining sufficient beam dilution while ensuring the survival of the TCDS make the design difficult, with high thermally induced dynamic stresses occurring in the material needed to attenuate the particle showers induced by the primary beam impact. [...]

The Performance of the New TCDQ System in the LHC Beam Dumping Region / Presland, Andrew ; Goddard, Brennan ; Weterings, Wim
The superconducting quadrupole magnet Q4 and other downstream LHC machine elements risk destruction in the event of a beam dump that is not synchronised with the abort gap. In order to protect these elements, a single sided mobile graphite diluter block TCDQ, in combination with a two-sided secondary collimator TCS and iron shield TCDQM, will be installed in front of Q4. [...]

Beam Halo on the LHC TCDQ Diluter System and Thermal Load on the Downstream Superconducting Magnets / Goddard, B ; Assmann, R W ; Presland, A ; Redaelli, S ; Robert-Démolaize, G ; Sarchiapone, L ; Weiler, T ; Weterings, W
The moveable single-jawed graphite TCDQ diluter must be positioned very close to the circulating LHC beam in order to prevent damage to downstream components in the event of an unsynchronised beam abort. A two-jawed graphite TCS.IR6 collimator forms part of the TCDQ system. [...]

Performance of the TCDQ diluter system / Presland, A (CERNE) ; Goddard, B (CERN)
A single sided mobile graphite diluter block TCDQ, in combination with a two-sided secondary collimator TCS and an iron shield TCDQM, will be installed in front of the superconducting quadrupole Q4 magnets in IR6, in order to protect it and other downstream LHC machine elements from destruction in the event of a beam dump that is not synchronised with the abort gap. The TCDQ and associated elements should also intercept spurious particles in the beam abort gap to prevent quenches from occurring during regular beam aborts, and must also intercept the particles from the secondary halo during low beam lifetime without provoking quenches. The Aperture and Layout of the LHC Extraction Septa and TCDS Diluter with an Enlarged MSDC Vacuum Chamber / Goddard, B (CERN) ; Gyr, Marcel (CERN)
The LHC beam dumping system must safely abort the LHC beams over the whole energy range, under all realistically possible fault conditions. These include normal operation, failure of machine elements and also abnormal performance of subsystems of the beam dumping system itself. [...]
