60° phase advance optics measurements in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN / Keintzel, J (CERN) ; Fartoukh, S (CERN) ; Le Garrec, M (CERN) ; Persson, T H B (CERN) ; Solfaroli, M (CERN) ; Todesco, E (CERN) ; Tomás, R (CERN) ; Wenninger, J (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) arcs have been designed for a FODO optics with roughly 90° betatron phase advance per arc cell, but not necessarily with exactly the same optics in the eight sectors of the ring. Measuring an optics with a significantly different arc cell phase advance, e.g. [...]

Comparison of carbon and HI-Z primary collimators for the LHC phase II collimation system   / Keller, L (SLAC) ; Markiewicz, T (SLAC) ; Smith, J (SLAC) ; Assmann, R (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) ; Weiler, T (Karlsruhe, Inst. Technol. )
WP: 8: Collimators & materials for higher beam power beam
Task: 8.1: ColMat Coordination & Communication

A current issue with the LHC collimation system is single-diffractive, off-energy protons from the primary collimators that pass completely through the secondary collimation system and are absorbed immediately downbeam in the cold magnets of the dispersion suppressor section. [...]

Dispersion suppression with missing magnets in a FODO structure - application to the CERN Antiproton Accumulator / Autin, Bruno
The lattice of an antiproton accumulator which uses the stochastic cooling method must meet a variety of requirements arising from its double function: storing particles in momentum space, and reducing their phase space volume in both transverse and longitudinal dimensions. A number of long straight sections, some of them with a zero momentum dispersion function alpha /sub p/, are required and have to be disposed on a relatively small circumference. [...]

Optimisation of the LHC dynamic aperture via the phase advance of the arc cells / Schmidt, F ; Verdier, A
The phase advances of the arc cells of storage rings are traditionally chosen to be simple fractions of p in order to take advantage of second order achromats they constitute. For the LHC, such a choice is not relevant because of the existence of high order systematic multipole components in the main dipoles. [...]

Cleaning performance with 11T dipoles and local dispersion suppressor collimation at the LHC / Bruce, R (CERN) ; Marsili, A (CERN) ; Redaelli, S (CERN)
The limiting locations of the present LHC machine in terms of losses on cold magnets are the dispersion suppressors (DS) downstream of the betatron collimation insertion (IR7). These losses are dominated by off-energy protons that have bypassed the upstream secondary collimation system and are lost where the dispersion starts to rise. [...]

Beam losses in the dispersion suppressors of IR3 and IR7 / Baishev, I S (Inst. High Energy physics, Protivino, Russia) ; Jeanneret, J B (CERN)
This work is a complement to the radiation studies for the IR3 and IR7 collimation insertions of LHC. In order to allow for dose calculations in the dispersion suppressors adjacent to these insertions, beam loss maps in these areas are presented and discussed..
