Statistical hadronization and strangeness enhancement from p-A $\to$ Pb- Pb collisions / Redlich, Krzysztof ; Hamieh, S ; Tounsi, A
The production of strange particles in Pb-Pb and p-A collisions at the SPS energy is discussed in the context of a statistical hadronization model. We show that the observed enhancement of strange baryon and antibaryon yields in Pb-Pb relative to p-Be and p-Pb collisions reported by the WA97 experiment can be quantitatively described in terms of the model if strangeness conservation is formulated in a canonical ensemble. Canonical description of strangeness enhancement from p-A $\to$ Pb-Pb collisions / Hamieh, S ; Redlich, Krzysztof ; Tounsi, A
We consider the production of strange particles in Pb-Pb and p-A collisions at the SPS energy reported by the WA97 experiment. We show that the observed enhancement of strange baryon and antibaryon yields in Pb-Pb collisions relative to p-Be and p-Pb can be explained in terms of the statistical model formulated in the canonical ensemble with respect to strangeness conservation. Strange particle production p-Be, p-Pb, Pb-Pb at 158 A GeV/c (WA97 experiment) / WA97 Collaboration
The CERN experiment WA97, which studies strange particle production at central rapidity in Pb-Pb, p-Pb, p-Be collisions at 158 A GeV/c, has already reported a pronounced enhancement of hyperon production. This is considered as a sensitive signature for a phase transition to a new state of matter-the quark gluon plasma (QGP). [...]

Strange baryon production in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 A GeV/c / Fini, R A ; Antinori, Federico ; Beutsch, W ; Bloodworth, Ian J ; Caliandro, R ; Carrer, N ; Di Bari, D ; Di Liberto, S ; Elia, D ; Evans, D et al.
The experiment WA97 is dedicated to the study of strange baryon production in Pb-Pb interactions at SPS energy. Results on the production of strange and multistrange baryons at midrapidity in Pb- Pb at 158 A GeV c/sup -1/ are reported and compared with those from p-Pb and p-Be reactions at the same energy. Study of strangeness enhancement in lead-lead collisions at the CERN SPS / WA97 Collaboration
A review of the latest results from the WA97 experiment on the strange particle production in Pb-Pb and p-Pb collisions is presented. Transverse mass spectra and yields of K/sub S//sup 0/, Lambda , Xi , Omega and h/sup -/ (negatively charged particles) have been measured at central rapidity. [...]

Results from CERN WA97/NA57 experiment on strange baryon production in Pb-Pb collisions / Fini, R A (Ist Nazionale di Fisica Nucl, Bari, Italy)
The CERN WA97 and NA57 experiments have been designed to study strange and multistrange particle production in Pb-Pb interactions at SPS energies. The strange baryon and antibaryon enhancements in Pb-Pb with respect to proton induced reactions, first observed by WA97 at 160 A GeV/c beam momentum, nicely fit with the expectations for the formation of a deconfined state of matter in relativistic heavy ion collisions. [...]

Hyperon and negative particle production at central rapidity in proton-beryllium interactions at 158 GeV/c / WA97 Collaboration
A study of the strangeness enhancement in lead-lead collisions with respect to proton-induced reactions is being carried out at the CERN SPS by the WA97 experiment: up to now, data from proton-lead collisions have been used as a reference sample. In this paper we report on a study of particle production in proton-beryllium collisions. [...]

Strange baryon signals of deconfinement in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV/c per nucleon / Quercigh, Emanuele (Ist Nazionale di Fisica Nucl)
The main results of the CERN WA97 heavy ion experiment are summarized. The evidence for the formation of a deconfined state of matter in Pb-Pb collisions at CERN SPS energies, provided by these results, is discussed. [...]

Results on 40 A GeV/c Pb-Pb collisions from the NA57 experiment / NA57 Collaboration
The NA57 experiment has been designed to study the onset of the strange baryon and antibaryon enhancements in Pb-Pb with respect to p-Be collisions, first observed by WA97 at 160 A GeV/c. NA57 has extended the WA97 measurements to investigate the evolution of strangeness enhancement over a wider centrality range and as a function of the beam energy. [...]

A new experiment to measure dimuon and open charm production in heavy ion collisions / Shahoyan, R /NA60 Collaboration
We present an experiment proposed to measure dimuon and open charm production in proton-nucleus and heavy ion collisions, at the CERN SPS. We report the expected performance and results from p-Be and Pb- Pb feasibility tests. [...]
