Origin of the Ultrahigh-Energy Cosmic Rays and their Spectral Break / Dado, Shlomo (Technion) ; Dar, Arnon (Technion) ; De Rujula, A (Madrid, Autonoma U. ; Madrid, CIEMAT ; CERN ; Boston U.)
The energy spectrum, composition and arrival directions of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) with energy above the cosmic ray ankle, measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory, are inconsistent if their origin is assumed to be extragalactic. Their observed properties, however, are those expected from UHECRs accelerated by the highly relativistic jets emitted in Galactic gamma ray bursts, most of which are beamed away from Earth. [...]

Photons as Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays ? / Kalashev, Oleg E. (Moscow, INR) ; Kuzmin, V.A. (Moscow, INR) ; Semikoz, D.V. (Moscow, INR ; Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Tkachev, I.I. (Moscow, INR ; CERN)
We study spectra of the Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays assuming primaries are protons and photons, and that their sources are extragalactic. [...]

Ultra high energy cosmic rays from topological defects / Berezinsky, Veniamin Sergeevich
The current status of origin of Ultra High Energy Cosm c Rays (UHECR) is reviewed, with emphasis given to elementary particle solutions to UHECR problem, namely to Topological Defects and Super-Heavy Dark Matter (SHDM)particles. The $9 relic superheavy particles are very efficiently produced at inflation. [...]

UHECR: Signatures and Models / Berezinsky, V (Gran Sasso)
The signatures of Ultra High Energy (E >1 EeV) proton propagation through CMB radiation are pair-production dip and GZK cutoff. The visible characteristics of these two spectral features are ankle, which is intrinsic part of the dip, beginning of GZK cutoff in the differential spectrum and E_{1/2} in integral spectrum. [...]

A Cannonball Model of Cosmic Rays / De Rujula, A. (CERN ; Boston U.)
I outline a Cannon-Ball model of Cosmic Rays in which their distribution in the Galaxy, their total luminosity, the broken power-law spectra with their observed slopes, the position of the knee(s) and ankle(s), and the alleged variations of composition with energy are all explained in terms of simple and standard physics..
