A high-intensity H- LINAC at CERN based on LEP-2 cavities / Vretenar, M. (CERN) /SPL Study Group Collaboration
In view of a possible evolution of the CERN accelerator complex towards higher proton intensities, a 2.2 GeV H- linac with 4 MW beam power has been designed, for use in connection with an accumulator and compressor ring as proton driver of a muon-based Neutrino Factory. The high-energy part of this linac can use most of the RF equipment (superconducting cavities and klystrons) from the LEP collider after its decommissioning at the end of 2000. [...]

Progress in the Design of the SPL, an $H ^{-}$ High-Intensity Linac at CERN / Bongardt, K ; Caspers, Friedhelm ; Frischholz, Hans ; Gerigk, F ; Lombardi, A M ; Losito, R ; Mostacci, A ; Paoluzzi, M ; Tückmantel, Joachim ; Vretenar, Maurizio
The SPL (Superconducting Proton Linac) is a 4 MW 2.2 GeV H- linac, intended to re-use most of the 352 MHz RF equipment from the decommissioned LEP machine. Injecting into the CERN PS, this linac would improve the intensity and quality of the CERN proton beams, while as a stand-alone facility could provide intense beams of radioactive ions or neutrinos (Neutrino Superbeam). Superconducting linac for a proton driver / Garoby, R ; Vretenar, Maurizio
A proton driver using a superconducting linac has the potential to provide beam with flexible characteristics at powers exceeding 4 MW. Efficient use of the input mains power is also an expected feature of such a system. [...]

Design of a 2.2 GeV Accumulator and Compressor for a Neutrino Factory / Autin, Bruno ; Cappi, R ; Chanel, M ; Gareyte, Jacques ; Garoby, R ; Giovannozzi, Massimo ; Haseroth, H ; Martini, M ; Métral, Elias ; Möhl, D et al.
The proton driver for a neutrino factory must provide megawatts of beam power at a few GeV, with nonosecond long bunches each containing more than 1x1012 protons. Such beam powers are within reach of a high-energy linac, but the required time structure cannot be provided without accumulation and compression. [...]
