Measurement of Beta-Beating Due to Strong Head-on Beam-Beam Interactions in the LHC / Gonçalves Jorge, Patrik (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Barranco García, Javier (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Coello de Portugal, Jaime Maria (CERN) ; Fol, Elena (CERN) ; Medina Medrano, Luis (CERN) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN) ; Wegscheider, Andreas (CERN)
The LHC operation relies on a good knowledge of the optics, usually corrected in absence of beam-beam interactions. In a near future, both the LHC and the HL-LHC will need to cope with large head-on beam-beam parameters, the impact on the optics needs to be understood and, if necessary, corrected. [...]

Landau Damping Studies for the FCC: Octupole Magnets, Electron Lens and Beam-Beam Effects / Tambasco, Claudia (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Arsenyev, Sergey (CERN) ; Barranco García, Javier (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Rivkin, Leonid (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Schulte, Daniel (CERN)
Stability studies for the FCC-hh operational cycle are explored using Landau octupoles and electron lenses alone and in the presence of long-range as well as head-on beam-beam effects. Pros and cons of the various methods are compared and an optimum operational scenario to guarantee the maximum stability is proposed..

Assessment of Linear and Non-Linear Optics Errors due to Beam-Beam with Multipoles for the High Luminosity LHC / Medina Medrano, Luis (Guanajuato U. ; CERN) ; Barranco García, Javier (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
Study of the head-on and long-range beam-beam effects in the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) is of interest to evaluate their potential impact on performance (in the form of luminosity imbalance) and machine operation (collimator system), and, depending on their magnitude, correction schemes might be necessary to minimize them. In this work, both the β-beating at zero amplitude and its amplitude-dependence are computed for the current HL-LHC baseline optics and parameters, as well as the amplitude detuning, at the main interaction points and collimators. [...]

Correction of Beta-Beating Due to Beam-Beam for the LHC and Its Impact on Dynamic Aperture / Medina Medrano, Luis (CERN ; Unlisted, MX) ; Barranco García, Javier (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Papaphilippou, Yannis (CERN) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
Minimization of the beta-beating at the two main interaction points of the LHC arising from the head-on and long-range beam-beam interactions can be performed by adjusting the strength of quadrupole or sextupole correctors. This compensation scheme is applied to the current LHC optics where the results show a significant reduction of the peak and RMS beta-beating; and the impact on the dynamic aperture is computed. Dynamic Aperture Studies of the Long-Range Beam-Beam Interaction at the LHC / Crouch, Matthew (U. Manchester (main)) ; Appleby, Robert (U. Long-range beam-beam interactions dictate the choice of operational parameters for the LHC, such as the crossing angle and β^{*} and therefore the luminosity reach for the collider. These effects can lead to particle losses, closed orbit effects and emittance growth. [...]

Simulation of Head-on Beam-Beam Limitations in Future High Energy Colliders / Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Barranco, Javier (EPFL-ISIC, Lausanne) ; Florio, Adrien (EPFL-ISIC, Lausanne) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (CERN) ; Tambasco, Claudia (CERN)
The Future Circular Hadron Collider (FCC-hh) project calls for studies in a new regime of beam-beam interactions. While the emittance damping due to synchrotron radiation is still slower than in past or existing lepton colliders, it is significantly larger than in other hadron colliders. [...]

The FCC-ee (Future Circular Collider) lepton collider is currently the most favored next generation research infrastructure project at CERN, aimed at studying properties of standard model particles with the highest precision ever. The chosen parameters of the machine yield unprecedented conditions which give rise to previously unseen dynamical effects during collisions. [...]
