A Ferroelectric Fast Reactive Tuner for Superconducting Cavities
/ Shipman, Nicholas (CERN) ; Bastard, Jeremy (CERN) ; Ben-Zvi, Ilan (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U.) ; Castilla, Alejandro (Lancaster U.) ; Coly, Marcel (CERN) ; Gerigk, Frank (CERN) ; Jing, Chunguang (Euclid Techlabs, Solon) ; Kanareykin, Alexei (Euclid Techlabs, Solon) ; Kazakov, Sergey (Fermilab) et al.
A prototype FerroElectric Fast Reactive Tuner (FE-FRT) for superconducting cavities has been developed, which allows the frequency to be controlled by application of a potential difference across a ferroelectric residing within the tuner. This technique has now become practically feasible due to the recent development of a new extremely low loss ferroelectric material. [...]

A Ferro-Electric fast Reactive Tuner (FE-FRT) is a novel type of RF cavity tuner containing a low loss ferroelectric material. FE-FRTs have no moving parts and allow cavity frequencies to be changed extremely quickly (on the timescale of 100s of ns or less). [...]

A Ferroelectric Fast Reactive Tuner (FE-FRT) to Combat Microphonics
/ Shipman, Nicholas (CERN) ; Bastard, Jeremy (CERN) ; Ben-Zvi, Ilan (Brookhaven) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U.) ; Castilla, Alejandro (Lancaster U.) ; Coly, Marcel (CERN) ; Gerigk, Frank (CERN) ; Jing, Chunguang (Euclid Techlabs, Solon) ; Kanareykin, Alexei (Euclid Techlabs, Solon) ; Macpherson, Alick (CERN) et al.
A prototype Fast Reactive Tuner (FRT) for superconducting cavities has been developed, which allows the frequency to be controlled by application of a potential difference across a newly developed ultra-low loss ferro-electric material residing within the tuner. The tuner operates at room temperature, outside of the cryostat and coupled to the cavity via an antenna and co-axial cable. [...]

Recent deployment of a digital LLRF system within the cavity testing framework of CERN’s vertical test cryostats has permitted a full revamp of cavity performance validation. With both full continuous and pulse mode operation, steady state a transient RF behaviour can be effectively probed. [...]

In-situ Bulk Residual Resistivity Ratio Measurement on Double Quarter Wave Crab Cavities
/ Shipman, Nicholas (Lancaster U. (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; CERN) ; Ben-Zvi, Ilan (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U. A four wire measurement was used to measure the bulk RRR on two DQW Crab Cavities. The measurement procedure is explained and the values obtained for each cavity are compared together with the values obtained from Niobium samples of the same stock from which the cavities were manufactured. [...]

As part of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project strategy, crab cavity correctors shall be installed around CMS and ATLAS experiments of the LHC. To accommodate the different crossing angle planes, two distinct cavity designs have been selected: the RF Dipole (RFD) and the Double Quarter Wave resonator (DQW). [...]
