Beam-Induced Depolarization and Application to a Polarized Gas Target in the LHC Beam / Erhard Steffens (University of Erlangen)
This note summarizes the results achieved at HERMES (DESY, Germany) on beam-induced depolarization of a polarized hydrogen gas target in a bunched High-Energy electron beam, and gives a first extrapolation to the conditions at the LHC..

Beam heat load measurements in the cold bore superconductive undulator in ANKA / Casalbuoni, S (Institute for Synchrotron Radiation, Research Center Karlsruhe, Germany) ; Grau, A ; Hagelstein, M ; Zimmermann, F (CERN) ; Rossmanith, Robert ; Kostka, Barbara ; Mashkina, Elena ; Steffens, Erhard ; Bernhard, Axel ; Wollmann, Daniel et al.
Measurements of the beam-induced heat load in the ANKA cold-bore superconductive undulator are summarized. The strength of the two dominating effects, resistive wall heating and heating by electron bombardment, depends on the beam parameters and the gap width..

"A proposal for an upgraded version of the existing gas injection system for the LHCb experiment (SMOG) is presented. The core idea of the project, called SMOG2, is the use of a storage cell for the injected gas to be installed upstream of the VELO detector [...]

Beam-induced background identification with image vision techniques at ATLAS / Longarini, I (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) /ATLAS Collaboration
At the LHC the interaction between the proton beam and the residual gas in the beam pipes originates secondary particles which, in the case of high-energy muons, are able to cross longitudinally the ATLAS detector and leave jet-like signatures in the calorimeter. Many new physics searches are affected by this beam-induced background. [...]

Beam-induced Background Simulations for the CMS Experiment at the LHC / Azhgirey, Igor (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Bayshev, Igor (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Dabrowski, Anne (CERN) ; Kurochkin, Igor (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Mallows, Sophie (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Riabchikova, Anastasiia (Serpukhov, IHEP)
Beam-induced background comes from interactions of the beam and beam halo particles with either the residual gas in the vacuum chamber of accelerator or the collimators that define the beam aperture. Beam-induced processes can potentially be a significant source of background for physics analyses at the LHC. [...]

Study of Hydrodynamic-Tunnelling Effects Induced by High-Energy Proton Beams in Graphite / Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Don, Jeppe (CERN) ; Kolthoff, Inken (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Rasile, Silvio (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN)
The design and assessment of machine-protection systems for existing and future high-energy accelerators comprises the study of accidental beam impact on machine elements. In case of a direct impact of a large number of high-energy particle bunches in one location, the damage range in the material is significantly increased due to an effect known as hydrodynamic tunnelling.
