/SkinScan Collaboration
The SkinScan project develops computational tools for a challenging radiotherapy technique -total skin irradiation with electrons for the treatment of cutaneous lymphomas. It addresses a complex problem domain, which still rests on a radiation therapy methodology developed in the 80's of the past century, by means of an innovative computational approach that involves a multidisciplinary team of physicists, medical experts, computer scientists and bioengineers. / Chauvie, S (Azienda Ospedaliera Santa Croce e Carle Cuneo and INFN Genova) ; Francis, Z (Univ. Blaise Pascal, LPC, IN2P3/CNRS, Aubière, France) ; Guatelli, S (INFN Genova, Italy) ; Incerti, S (CENBG, IN2P3/CNRS, Bordeaux 1 Univ., Gradignan, France) ; Mascialino, B (INFN Genova, Italy) ; Moretto, P (CENBG, IN2P3/CNRS, Bordeaux 1 Univ., Gradignan, France) ; Nieminen, P (ESA-ESTEC Noordwjik, The Netherlands) ; Pia, M G (INFN Genova, Italy)
/GEANT4 Collaboration
New physical processes specific for microdosimetry simulation are under development in the Geant4 Low Energy Electromagnetic package. The first set of models implemented for this purpose cover the interactions of electrons, protons and light ions in liquid water; they address a physics domain relevant to the simulation of radiation effects in biological systems, where water represents an important component. Characterization of Hysteretic Behavior of a FeCo Magnet for the Design of a Novel Ion Gantry
/ Felcini, E (CNAO, Milan) ; Pullia, M (CNAO, Milan) ; Sabbatini, L (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Vannozzi, A (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Trigilio, A (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Pivi, M (MedAustron) ; De Cesaris, I (MedAustron) ; Rossi, L (INFN, Milan ; Milan U.) ; Prioli, M (LASA, Segrate) ; Schwarz, P (CERN) et al.
In the framework of the euroSIG project and within an international collaboration between CNAO, CERN, INFN, and MedAustron, the design of a novel gantry for hadron therapy based on superconducting magnets and a downstream scanning system has been undertaken. The choice of placing the scanning system downstream of the last superconducting dipole plays a crucial role in the overall layout of the gantry, having a direct impact on its radius, weight, and cost.
