Upgrade of the CERN SPS Extraction Protection Elements TPS
/ Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Barnes, Michael (CERN) ; Baud, Cedric (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Maciariello, Fausto (CERN) ; Steele, Genevieve (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN)

Improvements of the SPS slow extraction electrostatic septum
/ Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Prost, Antoine (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Pirozzi, Fabrizio (CERN) ; Vincke, Helmut (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Kawa, Krzysztof (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Jorat, Louise Olivia (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Roudaut, Noah (CERN ; UTBM, Belfort)
The impact of high-flux protons on the inherent beam loss in the slow extraction straight from SPS towards the North Area has been recently discussed and potential improvements have been proposed. These solutions are mainly aiming to reduce the high component activation and related reduction of lifetime, as well as observed non-straightness in the anode body. [...]

Optimization of mechanical robustness in the booster injection bumpers
/ Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Atanasov, Miroslav (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Baud, Cedric (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; M Walraven (Inholland U. Appl. Sci., Alkmaar)
During the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) at CERN, the new Linac4 (L4) accelerator has been successfully connected to the PS Booster (PSB) to inject 160 MeV H− beam into the 4 superposed PSB rings. The horizontal displacement of the circulating beam during injection relies on 4 pulsed dipole magnets. [...]

Test Results of the First Wax-Impregnated Nb-Ti Canted Cosine Theta Septum Magnet “SuShi”
/ Barna, D (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Brunner, K (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Atanasov, M (CERN) ; Lackner, F (CERN) ; Olvegård, M (Uppsala U.) ; Pepitone, K (Uppsala U.) ; Kern, Rocio Santiago (Uppsala U.) ; Svanberg, C (Uppsala U.) ; Bagni, T (Uppsala U.)
In the framework of the future circular collider study, a new septum magnet concept (“SuShi”) has been developed, and a prototype was built at Wigner RCP, and tested at the FREIA facility of Uppsala University. The concept uses a canted cosine theta (CCT)-like superconducting magnet and a passive superconducting shield to create a zero-field and high-field region within its aperture. [...]

In the framework of the Future Circular Collider Study a new septum magnet concept, nicknamed ‘SuShi’ has been developed, and a prototype was built at Wigner Research Center for Physics, and tested at the FREIA facility of Uppsala University in April 2023. The concept uses a canted cosine theta (CCT)-like superconducting magnet and a passive superconducting shield to create a zero-field and high-field region within its aperture. [...]

FCC-ee $e^+e^-$ Injection and Booster rRng

The Future Circular electron-positron Collider (FCC-ee) is a proposal for a 91.17 km collider, which would operate in four modes with energies ranging from 45.6 GeV (Z-pole) to 182.5 GeV (ttbar-production). At high energies the beam lifetime could be as low as 6 minutes, requiring the beam to be continuously topped up to reach a high integrated luminosity. [...]

Conceptual design of a compact synchrotron-based facility for cancer therapy and biomedical research with helium and proton beams
/ Vretenar, M (CERN) ; Angoletta, M E (CERN) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Bottura, L (CERN) ; Taylor, R (CERN) ; Tranquille, G (CERN) ; Benedetto, E (Unlisted, CH) ; Torims, T (Latvia U., ISSP) ; Paļskis, K (Latvia U., ISSP) ; Sapinski, M (PSI, Villigen) et al.
Thanks to their superior dose conformality and higher radiobiological effectiveness with respect to protons, helium ions are considered as the new tool of choice in the fight against cancer using particle beams. A facility to produce helium beams at therapeutical energy can also accelerate protons, at energies permitting both standardised treatment and full body radiography, and heavier ions for treatment of shallow tumours and for research. Design optimization of the water-cooled coil for the LEIR extraction septum
/ Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Motschmann, Fritz (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Atanasov, Miroslav (CERN) ; Masson, Thierry (CERN) ; Erends, Vera (Utrecht U.)
A pulsed septum magnet (SMH40) is used for heavy ion extraction from the Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR). A non-conformity on the coil cooling circuit made it necessary to consolidate the design of the septum blade and related manufacturing process. [...]
