Active dosimetry for VHEE FLASH radiotherapy using beam profile monitors and charge measurements
/ Rieker, Vilde F (CERN ; Oslo U.) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Stapnes, Steinar (CERN) ; Adli, Erik (Oslo U.) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN) ; Grilj, Veljko (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Sjobak, Kyrre N (Oslo U.) ; Wroe, Laurence M (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN ; Ankara U.) ; Robertson, Cameron S (Oxford U.) et al.
The discovery of the FLASH effect has revealed a high potential for treating cancer more efficiently by sparing
healthy tissue. The surge in related medical research activities over the last couple of years has triggered a
demand for technology with the capability of generating and measuring ionizing radiation at ultra-high doserates (UHDR). [...]

Bubble-beam accelerators: breaking the paradigm
/ Malyzhenkov, Alexander (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (CERN) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN ; Ankara U.) ; Korysko, Pierre (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Tranchedone, Lorenzo (JAI, UK ; CERN)
Most particle accelerators utilize beams with a charge density concentrated in the center of the bunch in real 3-dimensional space and the 6-dimensional phase space. In this work, by enhancing the space-charge forces in the photo-cathode injector of the Compact Linear Electron Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) at CERN, we produce electron bunches with a “bubble-like” shape, with a charge density mostly concentrated on the outside shell. Application of beam-based alignment to the CLEAR facility
/ Aksoy, Avni (Ankara U. ; CERN) ; Malyzhenkov, Alexander (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Korysko, Pierre (Oxford U. ; CERN) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN)
The CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) has been operating since 2017 as a user facility providing beams for a large variety of experiments. Its RF photocathode-based linear accelerator can accelerate electrons up to 220 MeV with a bunch charge of 0.1-1.5nC with single or up to 150 bunches per train. [...]

Implementation of the beam-loading effect in the tracking code RF-track based on a power-diffusive model
/ Olivares Herrador, Javier (CERN ; Valencia U., IFIC) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN ; Ankara U.) ; Fuster Martínez, Nuria (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Gimeno, Benito (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Esperante, Daniel (Valencia U., IFIC ; U. Sevilla, Dept. Electron. Eng.)
The need to achieve high energies in particle accelerators is leading to the development of new accelerator technologies, resulting in higher beam intensities and more compact devices with stronger accelerating fields. In such scenarios, Beam Loading effects occur and a intensitydependent gradient reduction affects the accelerated beam as a consequence of its interaction with the surrounding cavity. [...]

Electron beam studies on a beam position monitor based on Cherenkov diffraction radiation
/ Pakuza, Collette (JAI, UK) ; Malyzhenkov, Alexander (CERN) ; Schloegelhofer, Andreas (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN) ; Spear, Bethany (JAI, UK) ; Senes, Eugenio (CERN) ; Lasocha, Kacper (CERN) ; Wendt, Manfred (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) et al.
A beam position monitor based on Cherenkov diffraction radiation (ChDR BPM) is currently under investigation to disentangle the electromagnetic field of an electron bunch from that of a proton bunch travelling together in time and space in the beam-line of the AWAKE plasma acceleration experiment at CERN. The signals from a horizontal pair of ChDR BPM radiators have been studied under a variety of beam conditions at the CLEAR electron beam test facility. [...]

A start-to-end optimisation of CLEAR for an inverse Compton scattering experiment, using RF-Track
/ Musat, Vlad (CERN ; JAI, UK) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Malyzhenkov, Alexander (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN)
The CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) has been operating since 2017 as a user facility providing beams for various experiments. We created a start-to-end model of the CLEAR setup in RF-Track, aiming to optimise the CLEAR accelerator as a driver for an X-ray source based on inverse-Compton scattering. [...]

A Start-to-End Optimisation Strategy for the CompactLight Accelerator Beamline
/ Zhao, Yongke (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (Ankara U. ; CERN) ; Castañeda Cortés, Hector Mauricio (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Dunning, David (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Thompson, Neil (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.)
The CompactLight collaboration designed a compact and cost-effective hard X-ray FEL facility, complemented by a soft X-ray option, based on X-band acceleration, capable of operating at 1 kHz pulse repetition rate. In this paper, we present a new simple start-to-end optimisation strategy that is developed for the CompactLight accelerator beamline, focusing on the hard X-ray mode. [...]

CompactLight (XLS) is an International Collaboration of 24 partners and 5 third parties, funded by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. The main goal of the project, which started in January 2018 with a duration of 36 months, is the design of an hard X-ray FEL facility beyond today’s state of the art, using the latest concepts for bright electron photo-injectors, high-gradient accelerating structures, and innovative short-period undulators.
