/ Gauld, R. (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; Gehrmann-De Ridder, A. (Zurich, ETH ; Zurich U.) ; Glover, E.W.N. (Durham U., IPPP) ; Huss, A. (Durham U., IPPP ; CERN) ; Majer, I. (Zurich, ETH)
We present precise predictions for the production of a Higgs boson in association with a hadronic jet and a $\mathrm{W}$ boson at hadron colliders. The behaviour of QCD corrections are studied for fiducial cross sections and distributions of the charged gauge boson and jet-related observables. [...]

Predictions for $\mathrm{Z}$-boson production in association with a $\mathrm{b}$-jet at $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^3)$
/ Gauld, R. (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; Gehrmann-De Ridder, A. (Zurich, ETH ; Zurich U.) ; Glover, E.W.N. (Durham U., IPPP) ; Huss, A. (Durham U., IPPP ; CERN) ; Majer, I. (Zurich, ETH)
Precise predictions are provided for the production of a $\mathrm{Z}$-boson and a $\mathrm{b}$-jet in hadron-hadron collisions within the framework of perturbative QCD, at $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^3)$. To obtain these predictions we perform the first calculation of a hadronic scattering process involving the direct production of a flavoured-jet at next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy in massless QCD, and extend techniques to also account for the impact of finite heavy-quark mass effects. We sum the leading logarithms $\alpha_s^n \ln^{2 n-1}(1-z), n = 1,2,$... near the kinematic threshold $z=m_H^2/\hat{s}\to 1$ at next-to-leading power in the expansion in (1$-z$) for Higgs production in gluon fusion. [...]

Top-Yukawa contributions to bbH production at the LHC
/ Deutschmann, Nicolas (Zurich, ETH) ; Maltoni, Fabio (Louvain U., CP3) ; Wiesemann, Marius (CERN) ; Zaro, Marco (Nikhef, Amsterdam)
We study the production of a Higgs boson in association with bottom quarks ($b\bar{b}H$) in hadronic collisions at the LHC, including the different contributions stemming from terms proportional to the top-quark Yukawa coupling ($y_t^2$), to the bottom-quark one ($y_b^2$), and to their interference ($y_b y_t$). Our results are accurate to next-to-leading order in QCD, employ the four-flavour scheme and the (Born-improved) heavy-top quark approximation. [...]

Effective operators in $t$-channel single top production and decay
/ de Beurs, M. (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; Laenen, E. (Nikhef, Amsterdam ; Amsterdam U. ; Utrecht U.) ; Vreeswijk, M. (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; Vryonidou, E. (Nikhef, Amsterdam ; CERN)
The production of a single top quark in the $t$-channel and its subsequent decay is studied at NLO accuracy in QCD, augmented with the relevant dimension-6 effective operators from the Standard Model Effective Theory. We examine various kinematic and angular distributions for proton-proton collisions at the LHC at 13 TeV, in order to assess the sensitivity to these operators, both with and without the top quark narrow width approximation. The Cosmic Ray Energetics and Mass (CREAM) timing charge detector
/ Ahn, H S ; Allison, P S ; Bagliesi, M G ; Beatty, J J ; Bigongiari, G ; Boyle, P ; Childers, J T ; Conklin, N B ; Coutu, S ; DuVernois, M A et al.
The use of detectors based on plastic scintillator with photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) is common in cosmic-ray experiments to differentiate particle charges. However, in the presence of a calorimeter, the standard method of pulse charge integration over a time longer than a PMT pulse is hampered by abundant albedo particles. [...]

After successful recovery of the first CREAM (Cosmic Ray Energetics And Mass) instrument during the 2004\/5 Antarctic campaign, the calorimeter was refurbished for the third launch, planned for December 2007. In this CREAM-III calorimeter, the optics were replaced with multi-clad fiber ribbons to enhance the light signal. [...]

/ Ahn, Hoseok ; Allison, P S ; Bagliesi, M G ; Beatty, J J ; Bigongiari, G ; Boyle, P J ; Childers, J T ; Conklin, N B ; Coutu, S ; Duvernois, M A et al.
The Cosmic Ray Energetics And Mass (CREAM) instrument is a balloon-borne experiment designed to measure the composition and energy spectra of cosmic rays of charge Z = 1 to 26 up to an energy of ∼1015 eV. CREAM had two successful flights on long-duration balloons (LDB) launched from McMurdo Station, Antarctica, in December 2004 and December 2005. [...]
