Optimizing Geant4 Hadronic Models
/ Genser, Krzysztof (Fermilab) ; Jun, Soon Yung (Fermilab) ; Ribon, Alberto (CERN) ; Uzhinsky, Vladimir (Dubna, JINR) ; Yarba, Julia (Fermilab)
Geant4, the leading detector simulation toolkit used in high energy physics, employs a set of physics models to simulate interactions of particles with matter across a wide range of energies. These models, especially the hadronic ones, rely largely on directly measured cross-sections and inclusive characteristics, and use physically motivated parameters. [...]

Including Calorimeter Test Beams in Geant-val—The Physics Validation Testing Suite of Geant4

The Geant4 simulation toolkit is currently adopted by many particle physics experiments, including those at the Large Hadron Collider and the ones proposed for future lepton and hadron colliders. In the present era of precision tests for the Standard Model and increasingly detailed detectors proposed for the future colliders scenario, Geant4 plays a key role. [...]

Geant4 detector simulations for future HEP experiments
/ Hariri, Farah (CERN) ; Novak, Mihaly (CERN) ; Ivanchenko, Vladimir (CERN ; Tomsk State U.) ; Ribon, Alberto (CERN)
/Geant4 Collaboration
The experimental programmes planned for the next decade are driving developments in the simulation domain: these include the High Luminosity LHC project (HL-LHC), neutrino experiments (LBNF/DUNE), and studies towards future facilities such as Linear Collider (ILC/CLIC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC). The complex detectors of the future, with different module- or cell-level shapes, finer segmentation, and novel materials and detection techniques, require additional features in geometry tools and bring new demands on physics coverage and accuracy within the constraints of the available computing resources. [...]

SIMD acceleration can potentially boost by factors the application throughput. Achieving efficient SIMD vectorization for scalar code with complex data flow and branching logic, goes however way beyond breaking some loop dependencies and relying on the compiler. [...]

One of the key factors for the successful development of Monte-Carlo programs for physics simulations is to properly organize regression testing and validation. Geant4, the world-standard toolkit for HEP detector simulation, heavily relies on this activity. [...]
