Gas jet-based beam profile monitor for the electron beam test stand at CERN / Stringer, O (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Zhang, H (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Butti, D (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Forck, P (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Kumar, N (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. A non-invasive bidirectional beam profile monitor using beam-induced fluorescence upon a thin sheet of gas has been developed at the Cockcroft Institute in collaboration with CERN and GSI. This device is particularly suited to the Electron Beam Test Stand, and as such, a bespoke gas injection has been optimized for this specific use-case to provide diagnostics unavailable to conventional scintillator screens. FOCUS (Fast Monte CarlO approach to Coherence of Undulator Sources) is a new GPU-based simulation code to compute the transverse coherence of undulator radiation from ultra-relativistic electrons. The core structure of the code, which is written in the language C++ accelerated with CUDA, combines an analytical description of the emitted electric fields and massively parallel computations on GPUs. FOCUS: Fast Monte-CarlO Approach to Coherence of Undulator Sources / Siano, Mirko (U. We present Fast Monte-CarlO approach to Coherence of Undulator Sources (FOCUS), a new GPU-based code to compute the transverse coherence of X-ray radiation from undulator sources. The code relies on scaled dimension- less quantities and analytic expressions of the electric field emitted by electrons in an undulator. [...]

Recent LHC SR Interferometer Simulations and Experimental Results / Butti, Daniele (CERN ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Trad, Georges (CERN)
At the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), among the different systems exploiting Synchrotron Radiation (SR) for beam diagnostics, interferometry is under study as a non-invasive technique for measuring absolute beam transverse sizes. Extensive numerical simulations, recently completed for characterising the spatial coherence of the LHC SR source, facilitated the optimisation of the LHC interferometer design and the existing prototype system tested in the past has been refurbished to include the new simulation findings. Two-Dimensional Beam Size Measurements with X-Ray Heterodyne Near Field Speckles / Siano, Mirko (Milan U.) ; Butti, Daniele (CERN) ; Goetz, Alexander (CERN) ; Iriso, Ubaldo (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Nosych, Andriy A (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Paroli, Bruno (Milan U.) ; Potenza, Marco A C (Milan U.) ; Solano, Eduardo (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) et al.
We report on 2D beam size measurements with a novel interferometric technique named Heterodyne Near Field Speckles, capable of resolving few-micrometer beam sizes. It relies on the interference between the weak spherical waves scattered by a colloidal suspension and the intense transilluminating X-ray beam. [...]

Two-dimensional electron beam size measurements with x-ray heterodyne near field speckles / Siano, M (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Paroli, B (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Potenza, M A C (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Teruzzi, L (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Iriso, U (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Nosych, A A (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Solano, E (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Torino, L (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Butti, D (CERN) ; Goetz, A (CERN) et al.
In this paper we report on recent two-dimensional (2D) electron beam size measurements with a nonconventional synchrotron radiation interferometric technique based on x-ray heterodyne near field speckles (HNFS). The method relies on Fourier analysis of the random speckle patterns generated by a water suspension of nanospheres to assess the full 2D transverse coherence of the incoming x rays. [...]

Simulation Methods for Transverse Beam Size Measurements Using the Heterodyne Near Field Speckles of Hard X-rays / Goetz, Alexander (CERN) ; Butti, Daniele (CERN) ; Iriso, Ubaldo (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Nosych, Andriy (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Paroli, Bruno (Milan U.) ; Potenza, Marco (INFN, Milan ; Milan U.) ; Siano, Mirko (Milan U.) ; Teruzzi, Luca (Milan U.) ; Torino, Laura (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) et al.
The Heterodyne Near Field Speckles (HNFS) is a special type of interferometry technique where radiation is scattered by nanoparticles suspended in a medium. The scattered waves and the transmitted radiation form an interference pattern, which is modulated by the spatial coherence of the radiation and by the scattering properties of the nanoparticles. LHC Emittance Measurements in Run 2 / Trad, G (CERN) ; Alexopoulos, A (CERN) ; Bravin, E (CERN) ; Butti, D (CERN) ; Kieffer, R (CERN) ; Roncarolo, F (CERN) ; Vlachos, S (CERN) ; Wurkner, B (CERN)
Measuring the beam transverse emittance is fundamental in every accelerator, in particular for the LHC, where its precise determination and its preservation is essential to maximize the luminosity and thus the performance of the colliding beams. In this contribution, a review of the status of the wirescanners, the synchrotron radiation monitors, the beam gas vertex detector and the quadrupolar moment measurement from the beam position monitors will be presented alongside the assessment of the obtained performance.
