Measuring the beam transverse emittance is fundamental in every accelerator, in particular for the LHC, where its precise determination and preservation is essential to maximize the luminosity and thus the performance of the colliding beams. In this contribution, a review of the status of the synchrotron radiation monitors, the beam gas vertex detector and the wirescanners will be presented alongside the assessment of the obtained performance [...]

New Beam Position Monitors for the CERN LINAC3 to LEIR Ion Beam Transfer Line / Søby, Lars (CERN) ; Baud, Guillaume (CERN) ; Bozzolan, Michele (CERN) ; Scrivens, Richard (CERN)
The ion injection line into the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) has recently been equipped with nine, new, electrostatic Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) in order to measure and optimize the trajectory of the low intensity ion beams coming from LINAC3. In this paper, we describe the design of the BPM, the low noise charge amplifier mounted directly on the BPM, and the digital acquisition system. [...]

Transverse Coupling Measurements With High Intensity Beams Using Driven Oscillations / Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Baud, Guillaume (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Coello de Portugal, Jaime Maria (CERN) ; Fol, Elena (CERN) ; Fuchsberger, Kajetan (CERN) ; Gabriel, Mathieu (CERN) ; Gąsior, Marek (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Hemelsoet, Georges-Henry (CERN) et al.
Transverse coupling has been linked to instabilities and reduction in dynamic aperture and is hence a crucial parameter to control in the LHC. In this article we describe the development to use driven oscillations to measure the transverse coupling with high intensity beams. [...]

Performance of the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) with Xenon beams / Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Andujar, Oscar (CERN) ; Angoletta, Maria Elena (CERN) ; Axensalva, Jerome (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Baud, Guillaume (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bozzolan, Michele (CERN) ; Cettour Cave, Stephane (CERN) et al.
In 2017 the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring demonstrated once more the feasibility of injecting, accumulating, cooling and accelerating a new nuclei, $^{129}$Xe${39+}$. The operation of this new ion species started at the beginning of March with the start up of the xenon ion source and the Linac3. [...]

First Operational Experience with the LHC Diode ORbit and OScillation (DOROS) System / Gąsior, Marek (CERN) ; Baud, Guillaume (CERN) ; Olexa, Jakub (CERN) ; Valentino, Gianluca (CERN)
The LHC started high-energy operation in 2015 with new tertiary collimators, equipped with beam position monitors embedded in their jaws. The required resolution and stability of the beam orbit measurements linked to these BPMs were addressed by the development of a new Diode ORbit and OScillation (DOROS) system. [...]

An upgrade of LHC beam instrumentation has been performed during the Long Shutdown 1. In this context both the beam position and tune monitoring systems, as well as their respective feedback systems have been reviewed and modified. This contribution presents an overview of the major hardware and software modifications performed during LS1 and the expected performance with 6.5TeV beams in 2015..

During LS1, the various instruments for beam profile measurement at the LHC were upgraded to cope with the beam energy increase. In this contribution, a review of the status of the synchrotron radiation monitors, the beam gas ionization monitors, the beam gas vertex detector and the wirescanners will be presented alongside the assessment of the obtained performance. In 2016 the fi-functions at the interaction points of ATLAS and CMS have been squeezed down to 0.4 m. This is below the design fi" = 0.55 m at 7 TeV and has been instrumental to surpass the design luminosity. [...]
