Contributing packages

Bioconductor is an open development project, meaning that all developers from the scientific community are able to contribute software. Packages contributed must meet Bioconductor guidelines and undergo a peer review process. Once accepted maintainers commit to continued maintenance and involvement on the community support pages regarding their contributions.

Bioconductor has two releases yearly (generally April and October). There are always two active branches of Bioconductor: the current release and devel. The release branch is meant to be stable and only be updated to fix package bugs. The devel branch is a place for development including new features of exisiting packages and a staging location for newly submited packages. Package development should always be against the Bioconductor 'devel' branch.
