On that day
This phrase often refers to the "Day of the Lord," a significant eschatological event in biblical prophecy. It is a time when God intervenes in human history to bring judgment and salvation. This concept is prevalent in the prophetic books and is associated with both immediate and future fulfillment. The "day" signifies a period of divine action, often linked to the end times.

there will be no light
The absence of light can symbolize judgment or a dramatic change in the natural order. In biblical terms, light often represents God's presence, truth, and revelation. The lack of light here may indicate a period of divine judgment or a supernatural alteration of creation. This imagery is reminiscent of the darkness that fell over Egypt during the plagues (Exodus 10:21-23) and the darkness at the crucifixion of Christ (Matthew 27:45).

no cold or frost
The mention of "no cold or frost" suggests a disruption of natural weather patterns, indicating a supernatural event. In the ancient Near East, cold and frost were less common but still significant, affecting agriculture and daily life. The absence of these elements could symbolize a new creation or a return to a pre-fall state, where the natural world is transformed. This aligns with prophetic visions of a renewed earth (Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21:1).

Teaching Points
Understanding Prophetic Imagery
Zechariah 14:6 uses vivid imagery to convey a message about the Day of the LORD. The absence of light symbolizes a significant shift in the natural order, pointing to God's direct intervention in human history.

God's Sovereignty Over Creation
The verse reminds us that God has control over the natural world. Just as He created light, He can alter it to fulfill His purposes. This should encourage believers to trust in God's power and plan.

Anticipation of God's Kingdom
The prophecy encourages believers to look forward to the fulfillment of God's promises. The unusual phenomena described are part of the transition to God's ultimate reign, urging us to live with hope and readiness.

Spiritual Readiness
The Day of the LORD is a call to spiritual vigilance. Believers are encouraged to examine their lives and align themselves with God's will, knowing that His return will bring about profound changes.

Living in the Light of Eternity
The absence of natural light in the prophecy points to a future where God's presence is the ultimate source of illumination. Christians are called to live with an eternal perspective, focusing on God's eternal kingdom rather than temporary earthly concerns.Verse 6. - The light shall not be clear, nor dark. The Greek, Syriac, and Latin Versions have, "There shall not be light, but ('and,' Septuagint) cold and ice." With the absence of light and sun shall come bitter frost, which impedes all activity, and kills life: or, taking the Septuagint rendering, there shall no longer be the interchange of seasons, but one lasting sunshine. It is plain that a time of distress and calamity is intended, and that the passage is threatening and not consolatory, at any rate, at first. There is solid ground for the rendering of the Revised Version margin, adopted by Cheyne and others, which is according to the Khetib, "There shall not be light, the bright ones shall contract themselves;" i.e. the heavenly bodies shall contract their light, or be heaped confusedly together, and cease to shine. The prediction in this case may be compared with that in Joel 3:15; Isaiah 13:10; and in Matthew 24:29; Revelation 6:12, 13. The Authorized Version is explained in the margin, i.e. "It shall not be clear in some places, and dark in other places of the world" - a gloss which is inadmissible.
