Bob Gray was a first rate wingman for Carlton in 187 league games between 1933 and 1945. Included in that total was the victorious grand final of 1938 when Gray was one of the very best players on view with his long goal just prior to the half time break hammering a decisive nail into Collingwood's coffin.

A Victorian interstate representative against South Australia in 1938 Green retired five games into the 1945 football season, meaning he missed the chance of participating in the Blues' grand final triumph over Carlton that September.

Tragically, just four years after his retirement as a player Bob Green was killed after being hit by a Melbourne tram on Plenty Road, Preston. He was aged just thirty-eight.

Bob Green's brother Jack also played VFL football for Carlton as well as Hawthorn.
