Tom Roulent joined North Melbourne from North Melbourne CYMS in 1939 and he slotted more or less immediately into the side as a defender. From 1939 to 1941 and in 1944-5 he played 77 VFL games for the shinboners and scored 17 goals. A magnificent kick, during the war years he won a long kicking competition against American servicemen.
In 1946 Roulent crossed to South Melbourne where he showed his adaptability by playing in several different position. In two seasons with the southerners he made 29 senior appearances and kicked 16 goals. In 1949-50 he captain-coached Jeparit.
