Rover Reg Richards joined South Melbourne from Clifton Hill CYMS in 1936, aged 18, but he did not pin down a regular place in the seniors until 1940. When he retired in 1947 he had played 117 VFL games and kicked 57 goals. First rover in South’s 1945 ‘Bloodbath’ grand final team he missed eight matches in his final league season through suspension, after being involved in a fight with Fitzroy’s Noel Price.
