Solid and dependable, if lacking somewhat in pace, Noel Allanson played for the most part in defence, although he could also do a serviceable job across centre. From 1947 to midway through the 1951 season he played 57 VFL games and scored one goal for Essendon. He then finished the 1951 season with Williamstown, and continued there for one more year, playing a total of 26 VFA games and scoring one goal.
If anything, Allanson was even better at cricket than football as he represented Victoria at the summer sport.
