Jason Norrish, a Bunbury lad, played for Claremont in the WAFL between 1990 and 1992 before joining Melbourne, which had selected him as pick five in the 1991 national draft. He spent just a couple of seasons (1993-4) with the Demon, playing 20 games and registering 2 goals, before being recruited by Fremantle in readiness for that club’s debut in the AFL in 1995.
After being hampered by injury during his first three seasons with the Dockers he came good in 1998 when he played every match and was rewarded with the club’s best and fairest award. A pronouncedly defensive on-baller - a tagger, in essence - he was invaluable to an almost obsessively attack-orientated Fremantle Dockers ensemble.
Norrish remained with Freo until the end of the 2002 season, by which time he had played 128 AFL games and kicked 23 goals for the club. He spent one last season with Claremont in 2003 bringing his games played total with that club to 66.
