Wilfred 'Jack' Pickford commenced with Hawthorn in 1922 when the club was still a member of the VFA, and continued with the Mayblooms, as they were known at the time, when they commenced in the VFL, along with Footscray and North Melbourne, in 1925. Between 1925 and 1928 Pickford, usually deployed across half back, played 55 games for Hawthorn and scored three goals. He spent the period from 1929 to 1931 with VFA club Brighton before returning to the VFL, this time with Melbourne, where he played two final goalless games in 1933.
