A truly formidable looking footballer who dwarfed most of his opponents, Jack Barker gave Hawthorn fine service in 113 VFL games from 1937 to 1945. He was capable of playing in any key position, and could also take a turn in the ruck, but he produced his best football at centre half back, which was where he was stationed in the overwhelming majority of his games. Perhaps the highlight of his career was his winning of the club's best-and-fairest award in 1942.
