Essendon recruited Harry 'Speed' Gregory from North Melbourne Juniors and he made his senior VFL debut for them in 1924. At the end of the season he was an ever present in the three match round robin series that determined the premiership winner - that winner ultimately being Essendon. Gregory played most of his football on a half back flank in which position he was robust, determined and reliable. After 90 games for the Same Old between 1924 and 1930 Harry Gregory spent the next three seasons at Coburg in the VFA before serving as North Melbourne's seconds coach in 1934.
Gregory was one of three footballers to play league football, the others being Johnny and Bruce who both represented North Melbourne.
