After failing as a forward at Carlton, where he managed just one game and one goal in 1968, Gordon Casey reinvented himself as an extremely reliable and consistent back pocket player with Footscray, for whom he played 125 VFL games and kicked five goals from 1969 to 1975. His disposal skills were first rate, and he anticipated well. A Victorian interstate representative in 1973 against Tasmania, Casey crossed to Swan Districts in 1976 where the last of his 91 WANFL games was the 1980 grand final in which Swans lowered their colours to South Fremantle.
