One of very few Maoris to have played top level football, Donald Dickie had made four league appearances for Sturt and enjoyed a more concerted spell with Norwood when he was included on Port Adelaide’s inaugural AFL list. A highly skilled wingman, who tackled hard and boasted clean ball handling skills, he was a conspicuous presence in Port’s first couple of seasons, running second in the club’s 1998 best and fairest count and earning something of a cult following. Ankle problems and a loss of form led to his de-listing in 2000 after 55 games and 19 goals. He also finished his Norwood career in 2000 having played 36 SANFL games for the club and scored 18 goals.
