A tough, hard running defender who boasted both pace and stamina, Darren Steele was a key player for North Melbourne in 119 games between 1984 and 1992. At his best he was one of the foremost taggers in the game, although his form in his last couple of seasons seemed to dip a little.. He gained a new, if brief lease of life after crossing to Geelong where he added a final 18 games in 1993-4.
