Chris Waterson was a lightly framed, highly determined utility who hailed originally from Nullawil, and who commenced with Essendon in 1982. After playing just 13 games in his first four seasons he came good in 1986, appearing 18 times, and seemingly, in the process, carving out a niche for himself in the strong Bombers line-up. It was therefore something of a surprise when he was off-loaded to Brisbane ahead of the 1987 season. He put in a couple of solid seasons at the Bears, playing 35 VFL games.
