Tough, inordinately courageous and extremely versatile Charlie Priestley gave sterling service to the Richmond Football Club, both on and off the field, for over half a century. As a player he was renowned for burrowing into packs regardless of his own safety, and all too often emerging with the ball. Although he was not invariably a first choice senior player, ultimately playing 52 reserves games compared to 109 with the seniors, he could always be counted on to display enormous dedication and determination swhen selected for the firsts. His career spanned the years 1938 to 1947 and included appearances in Richmond's losing grand final team against Fitzroy in 1944 and the reserves premiership combination two years later. He also won a reserve grade best and fairest award in 1944.

After retiring as a player Charlie Priestley served the Tigers in a variety of capacities including as a Director and Chairman of the selection committee.
