Leptogenesis typically requires the introduction of heavy particles whose out-of-equilibrium decays are essential for generating a matter-antimatter asymmetry, according to one of Sakharov's conditions. We demonstrate that in Dirac leptogenesis, scatterings between the light degrees of freedom - Standard Model particles plus Dirac neutrinos - are sufficient to generate the asymmetry. Due to its vanishing source term in the Boltzmann equations, the asymmetry of right-handed neutrinos solely arises through wash-in processes. Sakharov's conditions are satisfied because the right-handed neutrino partners are out of equilibrium. Consequently, heavy degrees of freedom never needed to be produced in the early universe, allowing for a reheating temperature well below their mass scale. Considering a minimal leptoquark model, we discuss the viable parameter space along with the observational signature of an increased number of effective neutrinos in the early universe.

In their recent letter, Heeck et al. [Phys. Rev. D 108, L031703] introduced a simple model of leptogenesis, in which the asymmetry originates from the scattering processes only. Here we argue that their calculation violates some of the basic principles of perturbative quantum field theory.

Usually, the reaction rate asymmetries in these constraints are computed within the classical kinetic theory, using zero-temperature quantum field theory to describe particles' interactions. We approximate the rates, otherwise obtained within the closed-time-path formalism, in terms of diagrams drawn on a cylindrical surface and their holomorphic cuts. The resulting equilibrium asymmetry constraints incorporate thermal-mass effects and allow tracking the cancellations of reaction rate asymmetries computed with quantum statistics. We use the top Yukawa corrections to the asymmetries in the seesaw type-I leptogenesis as an example.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is one of the key enablers for low-power and low-cost applications in consumer electronics and the Internet of Things. The latest features such as audio and direction finding will introduce more and more devices that rely on BLE for communication. However, like many other wireless standards, BLE relies on the unlicensed 2.4 GHz frequency band where the spectrum is already very crowded and a channel access without collisions with other devices is difficult to guarantee. For applications with high reliability requirements, it will be beneficial to actively consider channel access from other devices or standards. In this work, we present an approach to estimate the connection parameters of multiple BLE connections outside our control and knowledge by passively listening to the channel. With this, we are able to predict future channel access of these BLE connections that can be used by other wireless networks to avoid collisions. We show the applicability of our algorithm with measurements from which we are able to identify unknown BLE connections, reconstruct their specific connection parameters, and predict their future channel access.

We briefly explain a novel diagrammatic method for including thermal corrections in $CP$ asymmetric reaction rates entering the quantum Boltzmann equation. In thermal equilibrium, the asymmetries have to cancel precisely due to the $S$-matrix unitarity and $CPT$ invariance. Such cancelations are easy to track in zero-temperature leading-order calculations. However, accounting for medium effects requires modification of the on-shell part of propagators and, consequently, the $CP$ violating rates. In the literature, the correct form of the statistical factors in the asymmetry source term has been obtained employing the real-time-formalism of non-equilibrium field theory in a certain approximation. We demonstrate that the same results can be obtained by summing an infinite sequence of zero-temperature asymmetries. Those are derived from cuttings of forward diagrams drawn on a cylindrical surface, while thermal corrections come from windings of their propagators. The procedure is entirely diagrammatic, and the $CPT$ and unitarity cancelations are formulated for thermally corrected reaction rate asymmetries. The simplification achieved is the primary focus of our work. The aspect of infrared finiteness in higher-order corrections will also be discussed.

While localizing targets in a wireless communication system based on the Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) is a usual solution, it is limited by sensor quality. We consider the scenario of a car moving in and out of a chamber and propose to use a particle filter for sensor fusion, allowing us to incorporate non-idealities in our model and achieve a high-quality position estimate. Then, we use Machine Learning (ML) to classify the vehicle position. Our results show that the location output of the particle filter is a better input to the classifiers than the raw RSSI data, and we achieve improved accuracy while simultaneously reducing the number of features that the ML has to consider. We also compare the performance of multiple ML algorithms and show that SVMs provide the overall best performance for the given task.

Industrial wireless sensor networks are becoming crucial for modern manufacturing. If the sensors in those networks are mobile, the position information, besides the sensor data itself, can be of high relevance. E.g. this position information can increase the trustability of a wireless sensor measurement by assuring that the sensor is not physically removed, off track, or otherwise compromised.
In certain applications, localization information at cell-level, whether the sensor is inside or outside a room or cell, is sufficient. For this, localization using Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) measurements is very popular since RSSI values are available in almost all existing technologies and no direct interaction with the mobile sensor node and its communication in the network is needed. For this scenario, we propose methods to improve the robustness and accuracy of common machine learning classifiers, by using features based on short-term moments and a second classification stage using Hidden Markov Models. With the data from an extensive measurement campaign, we show the applicability of our method and achieve a cell-level localization accuracy of 93.5\%.

This work presents an alternative framework using the zero-temperature quantum field theory, $S$-matrix unitarity, and classical Boltzmann equation as starting points leading to a set of rules for calculations of thermal corrections to reaction rates. Statistical factors due to on-shell intermediate states are obtained from the cuts of forward diagrams with multiple spectator lines. It turns out that it is equivalent to cutting closed diagrams on a cylindrical surface.

The main focus of this paper is to introduce a new method to control perturbative calculations of CP asymmetric reaction rates in the Boltzmann equation. CP asymmetries in particle reactions are traditionally calculated in terms of complex couplings, Feynman integrals, and Cutkosky rules. We use an expansion of the $S$-matrix unitarity condition instead, obtaining a general expression for the asymmetries without reference to the imaginary part of the loops. Asymmetry cancelations implied by CPT and unitarity are manifested in a diagrammatic way and easy to track at any order of perturbation theory. We demonstrate the power of this general framework within the right-handed neutrino and top-quark scattering asymmetries in seesaw type-I leptogenesis.

Propagation graphs (PGs) serve as a frequency-selective, spatially consistent channel model suitable for fast channel simulations in a scattering environment. So far, however, the parametrization of the model, and its consequences, have received little attention. In this contribution, we propose a new parametrization for PGs that adheres to the doubly exponentially decaying cluster structure of the Saleh-Valenzuela (SV) model. We show how to compute the newly proposed internal model parameters based on an approximation of the $K$-factor and the two decay rates from the SV model. Furthermore, via the singular values of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels, we compare the degrees of freedom (DoF) between our new and another frequently used parametrization. Specifically, we compare the DoF loss when the distance between antennas within the transmitter and receiver arrays or the average distance between scatterers decreases. Based on this comparison, it is shown that, in contrast to the typical parametrization, our newly proposed parametrization loses DoF in both scenarios, as one would expect from a spatially consistent channel model.

This paper presents an analysis of the Orthogonal Time Frequency Space (OTFS) modulation scheme when applied to realistic vehicular channel situations. OTFS modulates symbols in delay-Doppler domain, hoping to exploit diversity in both. The penalty for doing this is the requirement of complex interference cancellation equalizers, as this domain incurs a strong amount of intercarrier and intersymbol interference. We conduct this analysis using measured millimeter wave vehicular channels, and we assume typical physical layer settings for a performance analysis. Our results show that there is a challenging trade-off between channel conditions that are easy to equalize and channel conditions that allow OFTS to exploit the two-dimensional diversity. In the first case we observe a good overall performance that is barely enhanced by employing OTFS. In the second case performance gain through OTFS is visible, yet with a bad overall performance.

We have extended the frequency capabilities of a baseband channel emulator which is capable of emulating non-stationary channels, to higher frequencies. To assure that the propagation between devices-under-test and the RF-frontend of the emulator is only a line-of-sight link, we have isolated the devices-under-test in two anechoic chambers. We characterize the testbed at 57 GHz by means of frequency sweeps for two artificial cases: when the emulator is replicating a one-tap channel and a two-tap channel. Finally we demonstrate the system functionality through reproduction of channels which were acquired during a vehicular millimetre wave measurement campaign conducted in Vienna in 2018.

Vehicles are increasingly becoming connected and short-range wireless communications promise to introduce a radical change in the drivers' behaviors. Among the main use cases, the intersection management is surely one of those that could mostly impact on both traffic safety and efficiency. In this work, we consider an intersection collision warning application and exploit an hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platform to verify the impact on the risk of accidents as well as the average time to travel a given distance. Besides including real ITS-G5 compliant message exchanges, the platform also includes a channel emulator with real signals. Results show that the risk of collisions can be drastically reduced, with an overall trade-off between safety and traffic efficiency. At the same time, it is shown that the presence of real channel conditions cannot guarantee the same condition of zero-risk as with ideal channel propagation, remarking the importance of channel conditions and signal processing.

We study the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) constrained by unification assuming mSUGRA SUSY breaking. At $M_U$ we also include right-handed neutrinos that are decoupled at their three respective scales. In a top-down global analysis we then find that there are two distinct best fits, primarily distinguished by the masses of the non-Standard Model Higgs states, and compute the predictions for flavour violating processes involving both leptons and quarks. The fit with the light Higgs spectrum is especially interesting with regards to the decay $B_s\to μ^+μ^-$. We note that the latter results go beyond what is called minimal flavour violation in the MSSM.

We discuss the implications of a measurement of $B_s\to μ^{+}μ^{-}$ for restricting the parameter space of gauginos and sfermion masses, and of signals in other channels $B_{d,s}\to l^{+}+l^{-}$. We present predictions for $μ\to e γ$ and $τ\to μγ$ in the CMSSM in which there is a natural hierarchy of neutrino masses resulting from the sequential dominance of three right-handed neutrinos. We perform a global analysis of this model in the $(m_0,M_{1/2})$ plane, assuming radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, and including all observed laboratory data. We confirm that a large (small) $τ\to μγ$ rate results from the dominant right-handed neutrino being the heaviest (lightest) one. We show that the $μ\to e γ$ rate may determine the order of the sub-dominant neutrino Yukawa couplings in the flavour basis, but may also be sensitive to effects beyond the leading log and leading mass insertion approximations. We also show that the $μ\to e γ$ rate is independent of $θ_{13}$, but measurement of this angle may determine a ratio of sub-dominant Yukawa couplings.

However it is known that intrinsically large threshold corrections proportional to $\tanβ\sim m_t(M_Z)/m_b(M_Z) \sim 50$ can nullify these $t, b$, $τ$ mass predictions. In this paper we turn the argument around. Instead of predicting fermion masses, we use the constraint of Yukawa unification and the observed values $M_t, m_b(m_b), M_τ$ to constrain SUSY parameter space. We find a narrow region survives for $μ> 0$ with $μ, M_{1/2} << m_{16}$, $A_0 \approx - 1.9 m_{16}$ and $m_{16} > 1200$ \gev. Demanding Yukawa unification thus makes definite predictions for Higgs and sparticle masses. In particular we find a light higgs with mass $m_h^0 = 114 \pm 5 \pm 3$ GeV and a light stop with $(m_{\tilde t_1})_{MIN} \sim 450$ GeV and $m_{\tilde t_1} << m_{\tilde b_1}$. In addition, we find a light chargino and a neutralino LSP. It is also significant that in this region of parameter space the SUSY contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment $a_μ^{SUSY} < 16 \times 10^{-10}$.

We discuss the lepton sector of a realistic string-inspired model based on the Pati-Salam $SU(4)\times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ gauge group supplemented by a U(1) family symmetry. The model involves third family Yukawa unification, predicts large $\tan β\sim 50$, and describes all fermion masses and mixing angles, including approximate bi-maximal mixing in the neutrino sector. Atmospheric neutrino mixing is achieved via a large 23 entry in the neutrino Yukawa matrix which can have important phenomenological effects. We find that the recent BNL result on the muon ($g-2$) can be easily accommodated in a large portion of the SUSY parameter space of this model. Over this region of parameter space the model predicts a CP-even Higgs mass near 115 GeV, and a rate for $τ\to μγ$ which is close to its current experimental limit.

The model is "natural" containing all operators in the Lagrangian consistent with the states and their charges. With minimal family symmetry breaking vevs the model is also predictive giving a unique solution to atmospheric (with maximal $ν_μ\to ν_τ$ mixing) and solar (with SMA MSW $ν_e \to ν_s$ mixing) neutrino oscillations. In this paper we analyze the case of general family breaking vevs. We now find several new solutions for three, four and five neutrinos. For three neutrinos we now obtain SMA MSW, LMA MSW or vacuum oscillation solutions for solar neutrinos. In all three cases the atmospheric data is described by maximal $ν_μ\to ν_τ$ mixing. In the four and five neutrino cases, in addition to fitting atmospheric and solar data as before, we are now able to fit LSND data. All this is obtained with the additional parameters coming from the family symmetry breaking vevs; providing only minor changes in the charged fermion fits.

The best fits assume rather large values of tan$β\approx 50$, and in our analysis they are not {\em a priori} correlated in any way, directly or indirectly, with the experimental limit on $a_μ$. Regions in the SUSY parameter space, which are currently ruled out because of too large $a_μ^{SUSY}$, are already excluded in the global fit by excessive corrections to $m_b$, unacceptable $BR(b\to sγ)$, or direct experimental limits on sparticle masses. However, our results indicate that the accuracy expected in the ongoing E821 experiment at BNL will eventually turn the muon anomalous magnetic moment into a major constraint for this regime of the MSSM.

We are able to fit fermion masses and mixing angles, including recent neutrino data, with 9 parameters in the charged fermion sector and 4 in the neutrino sector. The flavor symmetry plays a preeminent role -- (i) The model is "natural" -- we include all terms allowed by the symmetry. It restricts the number of arbitrary parameters and enforces many zeros in the effective mass matrices. (ii) Flavor symmetry breaking from U(2) \times U(1) \to U(1) \to nothing generates the family hierarchy. It also constrains squark and slepton mass matrices, thus ameliorating flavor violation resulting from squark and slepton loop contributions. (iii) Finally, it naturally gives large angle $ν_μ- ν_τ$ mixing describing atmospheric neutrino oscillation data and small angle $ν_e - ν_{s}$ mixing consistent with the small mixing angle MSW solution to solar neutrino data.

Two distinct fits describe the available low-energy data very well. The fits differ by the overall sign of the $b\to sγ$ decay amplitude. Study of the MSSM in large tan$β$ regime has to include correlations between the constraints presented by the low energy values of the b quark mass and BR($b \to sγ$). Both quantities receive SUSY contributions enhanced by tan$β$ and have a major impact on the MSSM analysis. Here we summarize the results of such a study constrained by a complete SO(10) model. The dominant effects to the analysis come from third generation Yukawa couplings and a GUT threshold to $α_s$. We show that a small negative GUT correction to $α_s$ accommodates $α_s(M_Z) \leq 0.118$ and $δm_b^{SUSY} > 0$. The latter quantity being positive then opens up two options to fit the measured rate for $b \to sγ$. The two distinct fits differ by the overall sign of the amplitude for this process. They work equally well in complementary regions of the allowed SUSY parameter space. We show plots of the partial contributions to the coefficient $C_7(M_Z)$ in the ($m_0,M_{1/2}$) plane in each of these best fits. We conclude that an attractive SO(10)-derived regime of the MSSM remains a viable option.

We obtain global fits to electroweak data, which include gauge couplings, gauge boson masses, BR($b\to sγ$) and masses of fermions of all three generations and their mixing angles. Thus we are able to test gauge unification, radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, SUSY sector (- in the context of supergravity induced SUSY breaking) and the Yukawa sector in each particular model self-consistently. One of the models studied provides a very good fit with $χ^2 \sim 1$ for 3 degrees of freedom, in a large region of the allowed SUSY parameter space. The Yukawa sector works so well in this case that the analysis ends up testing the MSSM constrained by unification. Adopting this point of view, in the second part of this talk we focus on the details of the fit for BR($b\to sγ$) and discuss the correlations among $δm_b^{SUSY}$, $α_s(M_Z)$ and a GUT threshold to $α_s(M_G)$. We conclude that an attractive SO(10)-derived regime of the MSSM remains a viable option.

We evaluate the finite 1-loop threshold corrections, proportional to $tanβ$, to the down quark mass matrix. These result in corrections to down quark masses and to Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa [CKM] matrix elements. The corrections to CKM matrix elements are the novel feature of this paper. For grand unified theories with large $\tanβ$ these corrections may significantly alter the low energy predictions of four of the CKM matrix elements and the Jarlskog parameter J, a measure of CP violation. The angles $α,\: β$ and $γ$ of the unitarity triangle and the ratio $|{V_{ub} \over V_{cb}}|$, however, are not corrected to this order. We also discuss these corrections in the light of recent models for fermion masses. Here the corrections may be useful in selecting among the various models. Moreover, if one model fits the data, it will only do so for a particular range of SUSY parameters.
