The Jo Ann C. Stabb Design Collection supports and enhances the
teaching and research goals of the Department of Design and its
curriculum.
With over 50 years of collecting and preserving design-related
objects, the collection consists of over 5,000 items ranging from
the 16th Century to present day. The majority of the objects are
ethnic and endangered textiles and costumes from around the world
that are used to enhance the teaching and research activities of
the Department of Design. The collection is comprised of
textiles and fashion, basketry, porcelain and glass, furniture
and architectural drawings.
Supported by donations from design faculty and friends, the
collection has grown in tandem with design education at UC Davis,
and demonstrates the evolving attitudes toward exhibiting,
conserving, researching, and interpreting material cultures in
today’s multifaceted world.
