Email Archiving
Emails can be archived from the mailboxes of email servers such as Microsoft Exchange as well as from the locally installed email clients of the users. All archiving tasks can be performed manually or automatically according to a schedule.
Archiving Exchange or Office 365 mailboxes and public folders
Existing Exchange or Office 365 mailboxes as well as public folders can be archived. You have the option to archive individual, multiple or all mailboxes in one step.
Archiving server mailboxes
In addition to Microsoft Exchange server mailboxes, the mailboxes of other email servers can be archived using IMAP or POP3 protocols. These include web-based mailboxes such as Google Mail or Web.de.
Archiving IMAP/POP3 Multidrop Mailboxes
If you have a single multidrop mailbox for your domain on the ISP's mailserver or your current mailserver is able to deliver copies of all sent and received emails to another mailbox, we can fetch all emails from such multidrop mailboxes and put them into the corresponding user's archive.
Archiving emails directly upon sending and receiving
Raid7 can archive the entire incoming and outgoing email traffic automatically.
What Are Cloud Services?
Cloud services or Cloud computing is the latest terminology that businesses and end users are hearing more frequently in today’s IT world. It has been around a very long time, mainly present with large organisations that require absolute sustainability and to distribute their services widely.
The basic understanding of a Cloud system can mean two things, either your “private” company network system is replicated in more than one location, allowing two places where your company services are provided from, or that part or all of your network infrastructure and services like Microsoft Exchange, (primary mail system for most companies) are supplied and supported by a service provider and available simply with an Internet connection.
Cloud Solutions have many Advantages, so what are the business benefits to be gained by selecting a Cloud Computing service from Raid7?
Business Agility, Accommodating Change and Growth
The ability to implement quick deployments or to undertake integration exercises are some of the benefits of Cloud Computing. This allows customers to deal with new application and service deployments, whilst also catering for access requirements for users from any new location.
However you plan to grow... merger, acquisition, additional locations or product/service lines, our Cloud services let you draw on the necessary IT infrastructure wherever and whenever you need it.
Financial Advantage
Through virtualisation and savings in infrastructure management and monitoring, and by leveraging our specialist expertise, our Cloud services can reduce the total cost of ownership across your entire IT environment through simplified management plans.
Aligning IT Expenditure with Your Business Needs
You pay for what you use, which means you can have the infrastructure you need for the peak periods, without paying for it in the troughs. Plus, our Cloud service model moves your IT Infrastructure off your balance sheet, so capital is no longer tied up in underutilised, ageing equipment which needs refreshing every 3-5 years.
Reduced Business Risk
Housing your business critical applications in a world-class data centre enhances their security, resiliency and availability, as well as supporting your corporate disaster recovery plan to maximise business continuity. Add to that the N+1 and redundant hardware capabilities from not only the Data Centre but also the cloud environment; you can rest assured that your environment will also be available.
Increased Staff Productivity
Leveraging off the best of breed hardware and software Services, companies will see improvements in staff productivity through increased performance and environment stability. A more reliable and available IT infrastructure reduces the risk of downtime for your users.
What Is Hosted Exchange?
Microsoft Exchange Server is the leading business-grade messaging system and is currently used by 160 million people worldwide. Exchange offers a number of capabilities, including email, calendaring, task management, address lists, and access to shared document repositories, and other functions.
Benefits to Business
There are a number of important reasons to consider doing so that are focused on direct costs, opportunity costs, security and other benefits.
- Reduced Costs
- Robust business continuity and data backup
- Rapid deployment and scaling
- Minimising the impact on the internal network
- Robust physical security
- Access to Exchange Expertise
Benefits for End Users
While IT can benefit significantly from a hosted Exchange deployment, so can end users. A hosted Exchange account can be accessed via Microsoft Outlook on Windows, Microsoft Entourage on the Mac, and from any leading Web browser, including Apple Safari. This permits users to access their email, calendar, tasks address lists, Exchange public folders and other content and data sources from virtually any desktop, laptop, netbook or other platform.
In addition to a variety of desktop and browser-based platforms, a hosted Exchange account can be accessed using Windows Mobile, as well as BlackBerry devices and iPhones, among other platforms.
Mobility
Mobility in the context of being able to access email, calendars etc. on mobile devices is important. However, the ability for individuals to work from any location on any devise is becoming more important for those working remotely, or doesn’t have a permanent work location.
Hosted Exchange is a key enabler of this capability because it allows workers to have access to their email, calendars address lists, task management tools etc. regardless of where they might be working – be it from home, a hotel room or a client’s conference room. This can further add to the cost savings provided by a hosted Exchange deployment far beyond the IT related savings that it provides.
Syncronisation Across All Platforms
One of the key benefits of hosted Exchange is that users who create content in Exchange will see it automatically synchronise across all of their access devices. For example:
- A user can create an appointment in Microsoft Outlook on their desktop and it will appear almost instantly on their Windows Mobile device.
- An email can be created using Outlook Web Access on a laptop and then appear in the Sent Items folder in Outlook on their desktop at home.
What Is Virtual Computing?
Typically, your computer consists of a piece of hardware with Random Access Memory (RAM), a hard disk of a certain capacity, A CPU processor or the “Brain” of a certain speed an operating system for example Windows XP and applications. All these components make up a single computer box to run your tasks.
A virtual computer is basically a large file like a Word document. They call this file or virtual computer a “Guest”. The Guest is typically an operating system like Windows XP or Windows 7.
The Guest / virtual computer or file on a special computer and program is called a Virtual machine host. A host is a computer designed only to run these guest files. Very much like a Microsoft Word document is designed to be opened with Microsoft Word, Excel document for Excel etc.
What makes virtual computing special is that these Guest files can be copied just like any other file we may backup, or take home with us.
Typically with the traditional computer, which the majority of us have, once an operating system is installed onto the computer, it is not as easy to “transfer” this operating system and all our favourite programs over to a new computer. We have to start all over again. In which by now most of us who have used computers would have experienced at some point.
NAS
NAS stands for Network Attached Storage. In simplistic terms, it is another box that has a bunch of hard disks in it that computers connect to via a network cable.
More importantly, it is what we use to connect our Host box to and it is where the virtual machines, or Guests are stored.
We do this to have the ability to separate the storage area from the Host Box for simplicity and flexibility.
The files along with the company data are stored on a box that is very good at what it does. It does one job. Like a virtual computer it is not dependent on any Host machine. It is happy for multiple Host boxes or physical computers to connect to it. In effect it is a little server in itself.
In the event of a Host box failure, we do not have as many concerns switching a Host box over or needing to worry about removing hard disks from an existing Host box which may not fit into a Host box. The Host box effectively becomes an empty shell, its job is to run the virtual machines and connect to the network.
The NAS box has a set number of duties. Provide the virtual files to the Host box, make sure the data is backed up and to be very reliable at its job.
Implementing this strategy minimises liability on one particular hardware component. It allows greater advantages for recovery by providing more options.
Small NAS boxes are now being implemented into homes to provide a simple method for all family members and users to share information like music and movies and backup those precious family photos.
