OpenIPMC is a free and open source firmware designed to operate as an Intelligent Platform Management Controller (IPMC). An IPMC is a fundamental component of electronic boards conformant to the Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) standard, currently being adopted by a number of high energy physics experiments, and is responsible for monitoring the health parameters of the board, managing its power states, and providing board control, debug and recovery functions to remote clients. Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation as a tool for beam diagnostics / Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Alves, Diogo (CERN) ; Apollonio, Marco (Diamond Light Source) ; Aryshev, Alexander (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Bergamaschi, Michele (CERN) ; Billing, Michael (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Bleko, Vitol'd (Tomsk Polytechnic U.) ; Bobb, Lorraine (Diamond Light Source) ; Bordlemay Padilla, Yadira (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Conway, Joseph (Cornell U., CLASSE) et al.
During the last three years, the emission of Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation (ChDR), appearing when a relativistic charged particle moves in the vicinity of a dielectric medium, has been investigated with the aim of providing non-invasive beam diagnostics. ChDR has very interesting properties, with a large number of photons emitted in a narrow and well-defined solid angle, providing excellent conditions for detection with very little background. [...]

First Measurements of Cherenkov-Diffraction Radiation at Diamond Light Source / Harryman, Daniel (JAI, UK) ; Apollonio, Marco (Diamond Light Source) ; Bergamaschi, Michele (CERN) ; Bobb, Lorraine (Diamond Light Source) ; Karataev, Pavel (JAI, UK) ; Kieffer, Robert (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Potylitsyn, Alexander (Tomsk Polytechnic U.)
Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation (ChDR), appearing when a charged particle moves in the vicinity of a dielectric medium with speed faster than the speed of light inside the medium, is a phenomenon that can be exploited for a range of non-invasive beam diagnostics. By using dielectric radiators that emit photons when in proximity to charged particle beams, one can design devices to measure beam properties such as position, direction and size. [...]

Development of a Versatile OTR-ODR Station for Future Linear Colliders / Kieffer, Robert (CERN) ; Aumeyr, Thomas (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bergamaschi, Michele (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Billing, Michael (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Bobb, Lorraine (Diamond Light Source) ; Conway, Joseph (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Karataev, Pavel (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Shanks, James (Cornell U., CLASSE) et al.
In order to study the feasibility of Optical Transition (OTR) and Diffraction (ODR) Radiation based profile measurement for the future electron-positron linear colliders (ILC, CLIC) a new dedicated instrument is under development at CERN to be installed in KEK-ATF2 beam line in fall 2015. To optimize sensitivity to micron and sub-micron beam sizes, we plan to observe ODR/OTR in the visible-UV wavelength range, down to approximately 150 nm. [...]

Simulation Studies of Intra-Train, Bunch-by-Bunch Feedback Systems at the International Linear Collider / Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Bett, Douglas (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Bodenstein, Ryan (Jefferson Lab ; JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (Diamond Light Source ; JAI, UK) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK)
The International Linear Collider (ILC) is a proposed electron-positron collider targeting collision energies from 250 GeV to 1 TeV. With design luminosities of order 10³⁴ cm²s⁻¹, a beam-based, intra-train feedback system would be required near the Interaction Point (IP) to provide nanometre-level stabilisation of the beam overlap in the collisions. A High-Resolution, Low-Latency, Bunch-by-Bunch Feedback System for Nano-Beam Stabilization / Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK) ; Bett, Douglas (JAI, UK) ; Blaskovic Kraljevic, Neven (ESS, Lund) ; Bromwich, Talitha (Edinburgh U.) ; Burrows, Philip N (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn B (Diamond Light Source) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK)
A low-latency, bunch-by-bunch feedback system employing high-resolution cavity Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) has been developed and tested at the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Japan. The feedback system was designed to demonstrate nanometer-level vertical stabilization at the focal point of the ATF2 and can be operated using either a single BPM to provide local beam stabilization, or by using two BPMs to stabilize the beam at an intermediate location. Recent Results on Non-invasive Beam Size Measurement Methods Based on Polarization Currents / Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Aryshev, Alexander (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Bergamaschi, Michele (CERN) ; Billing, Michael (Cornell U.) ; Bleko, Vitol'd (Tomsk Polytechnic U.) ; Bobb, Lorraine (Diamond Light Source) ; Conway, Joseph (Cornell U.) ; Forster, Michael (Cornell U.) ; Fuentes, Yadira (Cornell U.) ; Jones, Owain Rhodri (CERN) et al.
We present recent results on non-invasive beam profile measurement techniques based on Diffraction Radiation (DR) and Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation (ChDR). Both methods exploit the analysis of broadband electromagnetic radiation resulting from polarization currents produced in, or at the boundary of, a medium in close proximity of a charged particle beam.
