Optics measurements in the CERN PS Booster using turn-by-turn BPM data / Garcia-Tabares Valdivieso, Ana (UCM, Somosaguas) ; Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN)
As part of the LHC Injector Upgrade Project the injection of the CERN PS Booster will be changed to increase intensity and brightness of the delivered beams. The new injection scheme is likely to give rise to beta beating above the required level of 5% and new measurements are required. [...]

Transverse emittance studies at extraction of the CERN PS Booster / Antoniou, Fanouria (CERN) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (CERN) ; Forte, Vincenzo (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Valdivieso, Ana (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) et al.
Transverse emittance discrepancy in the beam transfer between the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) and the Proton Synchrotron (PS) is observed in operational conditions for the LHC beams at CERN. The ongoing LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project requires a tight budget for beam degradation along the injector chain and therefore the reason for this emittance discrepancy needs to be understood. Commissioning of Non-linear Optics in the LHC at Injection Energy / Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Coello de Portugal, Jaime Maria (CERN) ; Garcia-Tabares, Ana (CERN) ; Langner, Andy (CERN) ; Malina, Lukas (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
Commissioning of the nonlinear optics at injection in the LHC was carried out for the first time in 2015 via beam-based methods. Building upon studies performed during Run I, corrections to the nonlinear chromaticity and detuning with amplitude were obtained. [...]

LHC Run 2 optics commissioning experience in view of HL-LHC / Tomás, Rogelio (CERN) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Coello, Jaime (CERN) ; Dilly, Joschua (CERN) ; Fartoukh, Stephane (CERN) ; Fol, Elena (CERN) ; Gamba, Davide (CERN) ; Garcia-Tabares, Ana (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Hofer, Michael (CERN) et al.
LHC Run 2 has achieved a $\beta^*$ lower than a factor 2 below design. This has significantly challenged optics measurement and correction techniques in the linear and non-linear regimes, leading to the development of new approaches. [...]

LHC optics measurement and correction software progress and plans / Tomás, Rogelio (CERN) ; Cardona, Javier (Colombia, U. LHC Optics Measurements and Corrections (OMC) require efficient on-line software applications to acquire and analyze data and to compute the necessary corrections. During Run 2 various measurement and correction techniques have been merged to yield unprecedented optics quality, increasing the required number of steps to finalize the optics commissioning and the size of the software project. Limitations on Optics Measurements in the LHC / Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Coello de Portugal, Jaime Maria (CERN) ; Garcia-Tabares, Ana (CERN) ; Langner, Andy (CERN ; Hamburg U.) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Malina, Lukas (Oslo U. ; CERN) ; McAteer, Meghan (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
In preparation of the optics commissioning at an energy of 6.5 TeV, many improvements have been done to cope with the expected reduced signal to noise ratio due to lowered bunch intensities imposed by machine protection considerations. This included, among others, an increase of the flat top duration of the AC dipole excitations, which allowed to use more turn-by-turn data for the analysis. [...]

Optics-measurement-based BPM Calibration / Garcia-Tabares, Ana (CERN) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Coello de Portugal, Jaime Maria (CERN) ; Langner, Andy (CERN) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Malina, Lukas (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Solfaroli Camillocci, Matteo (CERN) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
The LHC beta functions (β) can be measured using the phase or the amplitude of betatron oscillations obtained with beam position monitors (BPMs). Using the amplitude information results in a β measurement affected by BPM calibration. [...]

New Methods for Measurement of Nonlinear Errors in LHC Experimental IRs and Their Application in the HL-LHC / Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Coello de Portugal, Jaime Maria (CERN) ; Garcia-Tabares, Ana (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Malina, Lukas (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
Studies of nonlinear errors in LHC experimental insertions (IRs) during Run 1 were based upon feed-down to tune and coupling from the crossing angle orbit bumps. Useful for validating the magnetic model, this method alone is of limited use to understand discrepancies between magnetic and beam-based measurement. [...]

Local Optics Corrections in the HL-LHC IR / Coello de Portugal, Jaime Maria (CERN ; Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Carlier, Felix (CERN) ; Garcia-Tabares, Ana (CERN) ; Langner, Andy (CERN) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Malina, Lukas (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
For the high luminosity upgrade of the LHC optics correction in the interaction regions is expected to be challenged by the very low β^{*} and the sizable expected quadrupolar errors in the triplet. This paper addresses the performance and limitations of the segment-by-segment technique to correct quadrupolar and skew quadrupolar errors in the HL-LHC IR via computer simulations. [...]
