Creating Exact Multipolar Fields in Accelerating RF Cavities via an Azimuthally Modulated Design / Wroe, Laurence M (JAI, UK) ; Apsimon, Robert J (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Sheehy, Suzanne L (JAI, UK ; Melbourne U.)
In this paper, we present a novel method for designing RF structures with specifically tailored multipolar field contributions. This has a range of applications, including the suppression of unwanted multipolar fields or the introduction of wanted terms, such as for quadrupole focusing. [...]

Minimising Transverse Multipoles in Accelerating RF Cavities via Azimuthally Modulated Designs / Wroe, Laurence (JAI, UK) ; Apsimon, Robert (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Sheehy, Suzanne (Melbourne U.)
In this paper, we build upon previous work of designing RF structures that support modes with tailored multipolar fields by applying the concept to negate the transverse multipoles in accelerating RF cavities caused by the incorporation of waveguide slots and tuning deformations. We outline a systematic method for designing structures that minimise these transverse multipoles and present analysis of simulations of two different minimisation designs..

Collaborative strategies for meeting the global need for cancer radiation therapy treatment systems / Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Aggarwal, Ajay (King's Coll. London) ; Angal-Kalinin, Deepa (Daresbury) ; Apsimon, Robert (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Boogert, Stewart (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U. The idea of designing affordable equipment and developing sustainable infrastructures for delivering radiation treatment for patients with cancer in countries that lack resources and expertise stimulated a first International Cancer Expert Corps (ICEC) championed, CERN-hosted workshop in Geneva in November 2016. Which has since been followed by three additional workshops involving the sponsorship and support from UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). [...]

Beam Optics Study for a Potential VHEE Beam Delivery System / Robertson, Cameron (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Gerbershagen, Alexander (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN)
VHEE (Very High Energy Electron) therapy can be superior to conventional radiotherapy for the treatment of deep seated tumours, whilst not necessarily requiring the space and cost of proton or heavy ion facilities. Developments in high gradient RF technology have allowed electrons to be accelerated to VHEE energies in a compact space, meaning that treatment could be possible with a shorter linac. [...]

Updates, Status and Experiments of CLEAR, the CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research / Korysko, Pierre (Oxford U.) ; Bateman, Joseph (JAI, UK) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (IRFU, Saclay) ; Gilardi, Antonio (CERN) ; Rieker, Vilde (CERN) ; Robertson, Cameron (JAI, UK) ; Sjobak, Kyrre (Oslo U.)
The CERN Linear Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) at CERN is a test facility using a 200 MeV electron beam. In 2020 and 2021, a few hardware upgrades were done: comparators for position measurements were added on components, the in-air experimental area was re-arranged in order to provide more space, a robotic system was built to enable remote samples manipulations for irradiation studies, the BPM reading system was optimized and the laser double-bunch system implemented to allow for a doubling of the electron bunch frequency from 1.5 GHz to 3 GHz. Testing the Properties of Beam-Dose Monitors for VHEE-FLASH Radiation Therapy / Bateman, Joseph (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (JAI, UK) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN) ; Gerbershagen, Alexander (CERN) ; Heracleous, Natalie (CERN) ; Korysko, Pierre (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) et al.
Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE) of 50 - 250 MeV are an attractive choice for FLASH radiation therapy (RT). Before VHEE-FLASH RT can be considered for clinical use, a reliable dosimetric and beam monitoring system needs to be developed, able to measure the dose delivered to the patient in real-time and cut off the beam in the event of a machine fault to prevent overdosing the patient. Optimisation of a High-Resolution, Low-Latency Stripline Beam Position Monitor System for Use in Intra-Train Feedback / Blaskovic Kraljevic, Neven (JAI, UK) ; Bett, Douglas (CERN) ; Bodenstein, Ryan (JAI, UK) ; Bromwich, Talitha (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (JAI, UK) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK)
A high-resolution, low-latency beam position monitor (BPM) system has been developed for use in feedback systems at particle accelerators and beamlines that operate with trains of particle bunches with bunch separations as low as several tens of nanoseconds, such as future linear electron-positron colliders and free-electron lasers. The system was tested with electron beams in the extraction line of the Accelerator Test Facility at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) in Japan. [...]

A system of three low-Q cavity beam position monitors (BPMs), installed in the interaction point (IP) region of the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) at KEK, has been designed and optimised for nanometre-level beam position resolution. The BPMs have been used to provide an input to a low-latency, intra-train beam position feedback system consisting of a digital feedback board and a custom stripline kicker with power amplifier.
