Upgrades Of The ATLAS Muon Spectrometer With sMDT Chambers / Ferretti, Claudio (University of Michigan, Department of Physics)
The Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers of the ATLAS muon spectrometer demonstrated that they provide very precise and robust tracking over large areas. Goals of ATLAS muon detector upgrades are to increase the acceptance for precision muon momentum measurement and triggering and to improve the rate capability of the muon chambers in the high-background regions when the LHC luminosity increases. [...]

Upgrades of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer with sMDT Chambers / Ferretti, Claudio (University of Michigan, Department of Physics) ; Kroha, Hubert (Max-Planck-Institut fuer Physik)
With half the drift-tube diameter of the Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers of the ATLAS muon spectrometer and otherwise unchanged operating parameters, small-diameter Muon Drift Tube (sMDT) chambers provide an order of magnitude higher rate capability and can be installed in detector regions where MDT chambers do not fit. [...]

Upgrades of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer with sMDT Chambers / Ferretti, C. (Michigan U.) ; Kroha, H. (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) /for the ATLAS Muon Collaboration
The chamber assembly time has been reduced by a factor of seven to one working day and the sense wire positioning accuracy improved by a factor of two to better than ten microns. [...]

Construction and Test of New Precision Drift-Tube Chambers for the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer / Kroha, Hubert (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kortner, Oliver (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Schmidt-Sommerfeld, Korbinian (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Takasugi, Eric (Munich, Max Planck Inst.)
ATLAS muon detector upgrades aim for increased acceptance for muon triggering and precision tracking and for improved rate capability of the muon chambers in the high-background regions of the detector with increasing LHC luminosity. The small-diameter Muon Drift Tube (sMDT) chambers have been developed for these purposes. [...]

Upgrades of the ATLAS muon spectrometer with new small-diameter drift tube chambers / El Moussaouy, Ali (Universite Hassan II, Ain Chock (MA)) /ATLAS Collaboration
The goals of the upgrades of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer with new small-diameter Muon Drift Tube Chambers (so-called sMDT) are to make room to install new triple-Resistive Plate Chambers (tRPC) to increase the trigger efficiency in the inner barrel muon region and to improve the rate capability of the muon chambers in the high background regions corresponding to the HL-LHC project. Therefore 8 New small diameter (15 mm) Muon Drift Tube chambers (so-called sMDT BIS7A) will be installed in the long shutdown 2 (LS2) in the transition region between Barrel and Endcap of Muon spectrometer 1 < |η| < 1.3 as a pilot project for the whole replacement of the MDT chambers in the small azimuthal sectors of the barrel inner layer (so-called BIS1-6) by new sMDT-RPC detectors in the long shutdown 3 (LS3). Construction and Test of New Precision Drift-Tube Chambers for Upgrades of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer in 2016/17 / Kroha, H. (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kortner, O. (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Müller, F. (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Nowak, S. (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Schmidt-Sommerfeld, K. (Munich, Max Planck Inst.)
Small-diameter Muon Drift Tube (sMDT) chambers have been developed for the ATLAS muon detector upgrade. They possess an improved rate capability and a more compact design with respect to the existing chambers, which allows to equip detector regions uninstrument at present. [...]

Reconstruction Performance Of The ATLAS Muon Detector / Ferretti, Claudio (University of Michigan, Department of Physics) ; Sciolla, Gabriella (Brandeis University, Department of Physics) ; van Eldik, Niels (Department of Physics, Technion)
The ATLAS muon reconstruction performance during the LHC run I at $\sqrt(s)= 7$ and 8 TeV was recently measured using samples of $J/\psi \rightarrow \mu\mu$, $Z \rightarrow \mu\mu$ and $\Upsilon \rightarrow \mu\mu$ decays. Reconstruction efficiency, transverse momentum resolution and momentum scales are measured in the various regions of the detector and for muon momenta between 6 and hundreds of GeV..
