The Spin Structure of the Proton and Polarized Collider Physics / Bass, S.D. (ECT, Trento) ; De Roeck, A. (CERN)
We summarise the present status of the proton spin problem and the physics possibilities for future polarized ep and pp colliders. This summary is based on the presentations and discussion sessions at the workshop ``The Spin Structure of the Proton and Polarized Collider Physics'' (Trento, July 23-28, 2001)..

Workshop for Young Scientists on the Physics of Ultrarelativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions - HQ'06 Hot Quarks 2006   15 - 20 May 2006  - Villasimius, Italy  / Antinori, F (ed.); Bass, S (ed.); De Falco, A (ed.); Kuhn, C (ed.); Nardi, M (ed.); Peitzmann, T (ed.); Ullrich, T (ed.); Velkovska, J (ed.); Wiedemann, Urs Achim (ed.)
One of the main challenges in nuclear and particle physics in the last 20 years has been to understand how the proton's spin is built up from its quark and gluon constituents. Quark models generally predict that about 60% of the proton's spin should be carried by the spin of the quarks inside, whereas high energy scattering experiments have shown that the quark spin contribution is small - only about 30% [...]

A study of the polarized structure function $g_{1}^{p}(x,Q^{2})$ and the polarized gluon distribution $\Delta g(x,Q^{2})$ at HERA / De Roeck, A. (DESY ; CERN) ; Deshpande, A. (Yale U.) ; Hughes, V.W. (Yale U.) ; Lichtenstadt, J. (Tel Aviv U.) ; Radel, G. (CERN)
We present estimates of possible data on spin-dependent asymmetries in inclusive scattering of high energy polarized electrons by high energy polarized protons at HERA with their statistical errors and discuss systematic errors. We show that these data will provide important information on the low-x behavior of the polarized structure function g_1, and will reduce the uncertainty in the determination of the first moment of the polarized gluon distribution Delta g(x,Q^2) obtained from the QCD analysis of g_1 in NLO.
