Emittance growth studies due to Crab Cavity induced amplitude noise in the SPS
/ Fornara, Andrea (Manchester U. ; CERN) ; Trad, Georges (CERN) ; Sterbini, Guido (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Triantafyllou, Natalia (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Appleby, Robert (Manchester U.) ; Kostoglou, Sofia (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN) et al.
In the context of the HL-LHC upgrade, RF Crab Cavities (CCs) are one of the key components to achieve the target integrated luminosity. Due to the increased bunch intensity, the collider will operate with a large crossing angle scheme to alleviate the long-range beam-beam effect. [...]

Luminosity effects due to dependent heavy-tailed beams
/ Lamb, Elleanor (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Sterbini, Guido (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN)
The luminosity of particle colliders depends, among other parameters, on the transverse profiles of the colliding beams. At the LHC at CERN, heavy-tailed transverse beam distributions are typically observed in routine operation. [...]

Refining the LHC Longitudinal Impedance Model
/ Zampetakis, Michail (CERN) ; Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Brischetto, Ylenia (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Giacomel, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Karlsen-Bæck, Birk Emil (INFN, Rome ; Rome U. ; CERN) ; Karpov, Ivan (CERN) ; Mounet, Nicolas (CERN) ; Salvant, Benoit (CERN) ; Timko, Helga (CERN)
Modelling the longitudinal impedance for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been a long-standing effort, especially in view of its High-Luminosity (HL) upgrade. The resulting impedance model is an essential input for beam dynamics studies. [...]

Understanding of the LHC warm vacuum module heating

During the third run of the Large Hadron Collider in 2023, which had the highest intensity bunch population compared to previous runs, increased losses attributed to pressure spikes within a warm vacuum sector triggered a beam dump. Subsequent inspections revealed localised annealing and plasticisation of the tension spring in the sliding contact radio-frequency finger module, alongside traces of vapour deposition on the various module components with the stainless-steel spring material. Measurement of Transverse Statistical Dependence for Non-Gaussian Beam Distributions via Resonances in the CERN PSB
/ Lamb, Elleanor (CERN ; EPFL, Lausanne, FSL) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Sterbini, Guido (CERN)
This work addresses the origins and the effects of the statistical dependence in non-Gaussian beam distributions with the ultimate goal to identify the most representative case for tracking simulations across the CERN accelerator complex. Starting from the observation that non-Gaussian heavy-tailed transverse beam profiles can be reconstructed from 4D phase space distributions under two different conditions (statistical independence or dependence in the x-y plane), we consider space charge dominated beams interacting with the lattice nonlinear resonances to perform measurements to study the mechanisms that lead to non-Gaussian distributions. Xsuite: an integrated beam physics simulation framework

Xsuite is a newly developed modular simulation package combining in a single flexible and modern framework the capabilities of different tools developed at CERN in the past decades, notably Sixtrack, Sixtracklib, COMBI and PyHEADTAIL. The suite consists of a set of Python modules (Xobjects, Xpart, Xtrack, Xcoll, Xfields, Xdeps) that can be flexibly combined together and with other accelerator-specific and general-purpose python tools to study complex simulation scenarios.
