A detailed study of the operation of a novel ionisation gauge, recently proposed as a reference standard by the consortium of the European project 16NRM05, is performed with focus on the influence of electron trajectories and the interaction of electrons with electrode surfaces. The strategy behind the gauge design was to provide well defined primary electron trajectories that form an electron beam. [...]

•A new type of ionisation vacuum gauge shows excellent stability and linearity.•Relative gas sensitivity factors can be predicted.•The new new type of ionisation vacuum gauge can serve as reference standard from 1E to 6 Pa to 1E-2 Pa. Recently, a new type of ionization vacuum gauge was introduced, which was proposed as a reference and transfer standard in the range of 10-6 Pa to 10-2 Pa because of its excellent stability and linearity. Electrons on a straight path: A novel ionisation vacuum gauge suitable as reference standard / Jousten, Karl (Berlin, Phys. Tech. Bund.) ; Bernien, Matthias (Berlin, Phys. Tech. Bund.) ; Boineau, Frédéric (Orsay, LIMSI) ; Bundaleski, Nenad (New Lisbon U.) ; Illgen, Claus (Berlin, Phys. Tech. The consortium of the European project 16NRM05 designed a novel ionisation vacuum gauge in which the electrons take a straight path from the emitting cathode through the ionisation space into a Faraday cup. Compared to existing ionisation vacuum gauges, this has the advantage that the electron path length is well defined. [...]

Comparison of ionization vacuum gauges close to their low pressure limit / Stöltzel, Anke (CERN) ; Jenninger, Berthold (CERN)
Parts of CERN’s accelerator complex and experiments, especially in the antimatter field, require a vacuum in the  $10^{-12}$ mbar range or better. Thus gauges are needed to reliably measure XHV during experimental operation and in order to study the vacuum science needed for those experiments. [...]

Estimation of the thermal radiation induced desorption yield for hydrogen and helium at liquid helium temperatures / Jenninger, Berthold (CERN) ; Bez, Elena (CERN) ; Stöltzel, Anke (CERN) ; Rooijakkers, Fleur (CERN) ; Tiirinen, Eino (CERN)
Infrared radiation induced desorption of adsorbed molecules from cryogenic surfaces can lead to potentially detrimental pressure limitation in cryogenic UHV/XHV systems. For a sub-monolayer coverage, we determined the corresponding yields for hydrogen and helium exposed to room temperature radiation to be in the order of 1·10−4 and 0.02 m2(W·s)−1 respectively. [...]
