Beam Optics Study for a Potential VHEE Beam Delivery System / Robertson, Cameron (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Gerbershagen, Alexander (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN)
VHEE (Very High Energy Electron) therapy can be superior to conventional radiotherapy for the treatment of deep seated tumours, whilst not necessarily requiring the space and cost of proton or heavy ion facilities. Developments in high gradient RF technology have allowed electrons to be accelerated to VHEE energies in a compact space, meaning that treatment could be possible with a shorter linac. [...]

Updates, Status and Experiments of CLEAR, the CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research / Korysko, Pierre (Oxford U.) ; Bateman, Joseph (JAI, UK) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (IRFU, Saclay) ; Gilardi, Antonio (CERN) ; Rieker, Vilde (CERN) ; Robertson, Cameron (JAI, UK) ; Sjobak, Kyrre (Oslo U.)
The CERN Linear Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) at CERN is a test facility using a 200 MeV electron beam. In 2020 and 2021, a few hardware upgrades were done: comparators for position measurements were added on components, the in-air experimental area was re-arranged in order to provide more space, a robotic system was built to enable remote samples manipulations for irradiation studies, the BPM reading system was optimized and the laser double-bunch system implemented to allow for a doubling of the electron bunch frequency from 1.5 GHz to 3 GHz. [...]

Methods for VHEE/FLASH Radiotherapy Studies and High Dose Rate Dosimetry at the CLEAR User Facility / Korysko, Pierre (U. Oxford (main) ; CERN) ; Bateman, Joseph (U. Oxford (main) ; CERN) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN) ; Rieker, Vilde (CERN) ; Robertson, Cameron (U. Oxford (main) ; CERN)
The CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research (CLEAR), operating since 2017, is a user facility providing electron beams for a varied and large range of experiments. The accelerator can generate a 60-220 MeV electron beam and it was recently selected to study the feasibility of using Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE) at Ultra High Dose Rate (UHDR) for cancer radiotherapy. Testing the Properties of Beam-Dose Monitors for VHEE-FLASH Radiation Therapy / Bateman, Joseph (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (JAI, UK) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN) ; Gerbershagen, Alexander (CERN) ; Heracleous, Natalie (CERN) ; Korysko, Pierre (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) et al.
Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE) of 50 - 250 MeV are an attractive choice for FLASH radiation therapy (RT). Before VHEE-FLASH RT can be considered for clinical use, a reliable dosimetric and beam monitoring system needs to be developed, able to measure the dose delivered to the patient in real-time and cut off the beam in the event of a machine fault to prevent overdosing the patient. IP Feedback Ground Motion Simulation Studies for the ILC / Bodenstein, Ryan (JAI, UK) ; Blaskovic Kraljevic, Neven (JAI, UK) ; Bromwich, Talitha (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (JAI, UK) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK) ; Pfingstner, Juergen (CERN) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK)
The International Linear Collider (ILC), as described in its Technical Design Report (TDR), must maintain strict control of its electron and positron beams in order to achieve the desired luminosity at each of its proposed center-of-mass energies. Controlling the beam parameters requires a dynamic system, capable of adjusting to a myriad of perturbations and errors. [...]

Intra-Train Position and Angle Stabilisation at ATF Based on Sub-Micron Resolution Stripline Beam Position Monitors / Blaskovic Kraljevic, Neven (JAI, UK) ; Bett, Douglas (CERN) ; Bromwich, Talitha (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (JAI, UK) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK)
A low-latency, sub-micron resolution stripline beam position monitoring (BPM) system has been developed and tested with beam at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2), where it has been used to drive a beam stabilisation system. The fast analogue front-end signal processor is based on a single-stage radio-frequency down-mixer, with a measured latency of 16 ns and a demonstrated single-pass beam position resolution of below 300 nm using a beam with a bunch charge of approximately 1 nC. A custom 9-channel feedback controller has been developed for low-latency applications in beam-based stabilisation. Fast 14-bit ADCs and DACs are used for high-resolution signal conversion and a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA is used for core high-bandwidth digital computation. [...]

Simulation Studies of Intra-Train, Bunch-by-Bunch Feedback Systems at the International Linear Collider / Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Bett, Douglas (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Bodenstein, Ryan (Jefferson Lab ; JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (Diamond Light Source ; JAI, UK) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK)
The International Linear Collider (ILC) is a proposed electron-positron collider targeting collision energies from 250 GeV to 1 TeV. With design luminosities of order 10³⁴ cm²s⁻¹, a beam-based, intra-train feedback system would be required near the Interaction Point (IP) to provide nanometre-level stabilisation of the beam overlap in the collisions. Creating Exact Multipolar Fields in Accelerating RF Cavities via an Azimuthally Modulated Design / Wroe, Laurence M (JAI, UK) ; Apsimon, Robert J (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Sheehy, Suzanne L (JAI, UK ; Melbourne U.)
In this paper, we present a novel method for designing RF structures with specifically tailored multipolar field contributions. This has a range of applications, including the suppression of unwanted multipolar fields or the introduction of wanted terms, such as for quadrupole focusing. [...]
