MoEDAL search in the CMS beam pipe for magnetic monopoles produced via the Schwinger effect / MoEDAL Collaboration
We report on a search for magnetic monopoles (MMs) produced in ultraperipheral Pb--Pb collisions during Run-1 of the LHC. The beam pipe surrounding the interaction region of the CMS experiment was exposed to 184.07 µ b$^{-1}$ of Pb--Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV center-of-mass energy per collision in December 2011, before being removed in 2013. We summarize the discussions at a virtual Community Workshop on Cold Atoms in Space concerning the status of cold atom technologies, the prospective scientific and societal opportunities offered by their deployment in space, and the developments needed before cold atoms could be operated in space. The cold atom technologies discussed include atomic clocks, quantum gravimeters and accelerometers, and atom interferometers. [...]

Cosmology with the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna / LISA Cosmology Working Group Collaboration
The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) has two scientific objectives of cosmological focus: to probe the expansion rate of the universe, and to understand stochastic gravitational-wave backgrounds and their implications for early universe and particle physics, from the MeV to the Planck scale. However, the range of potential cosmological applications of gravitational wave observations extends well beyond these two objectives. [...]

Search for magnetic monopoles produced via the Schwinger mechanism / MoEDAL Collaboration
Schwinger showed that electrically-charged particles can be produced in a strong electric field by quantum tunnelling through the Coulomb barrier. By electromagnetic duality, if magnetic monopoles (MMs) exist, they would be produced by the same mechanism in a sufficiently strong magnetic field. [...]

New physics searches with heavy-ion collisions at the LHC / Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; d'Enterria, David (CERN) ; de Roeck, Albert (CERN) ; Drewes, Marco (Louvain U., CP3) ; Farrar, Glennys R. (New York U., CCPP) ; Giammanco, Andrea (Louvain U., CP3) ; Gould, Oliver (Helsinki U.) ; Hajer, Jan (Louvain U., CP3) ; Harland-Lang, Lucian (Oxford U.) ; Heisig, Jan (Louvain U., CP3) et al.
This document summarises proposed searches for new physics accessible in the heavy-ion mode at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), both through hadronic and ultraperipheral $\gamma\gamma$ interactions, and that have a competitive or, even, unique discovery potential compared to standard proton-proton collision studies. Illustrative examples include searches for new particles -- such as axion-like pseudoscalars, radions, magnetic monopoles, new long-lived particles, dark photons, and sexaquarks as dark matter candidates -- as well as new interactions, such as non-linear or non-commutative QED extensions. Progress on Test EBIS and the Design of an EBIS-Based RHIC Preinjector / Alessi, James ; Beebe, Edward ; Gould, Omar ; Kponou, Ahovi ; Lockey, Robert ; Pikin, Alexander I ; Prelec, Krsto ; Raparia, Deepak ; Ritter, John ; Snydstrup, Louis
Following the successful development of the Test EBIS at BNL,* we now have a design for an EBIS-based heavy ion preinjector which would serve as an alternative to the Tandem Van de Graaffs in providing beams for RHIC and the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory. This baseline design includes an EBIS producing mA-level currents of heavy ions (ex [...]
