We are honored to announce that World Vision Southern Africa will be co-hosting the International Conference on Children's Rights on September 10-11, 2024 at Stellenbosch University in South Africa.   This event will bring together leaders and experts to reflect on 35 years of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC). We will take stock of progress made in child protection and engage in discussions about the challenges that remain to ensure children worldwide realize their full potential.    World Vision's Contributions: 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Sakhile Dlamini, World Vision's safeguarding expert will share insights on children's rights in Southern Africa and globally. Wednesday 28 August marked a significant milestone in Eswatini's journey towards achieving universal water coverage, as a high-level delegation from World Vision met with His Excellency Prime Minister Russell Dlamini to discuss expanding their partnership. The meeting focused on World Vision Eswatini ambitious 50:50 cost-sharing proposal with His Majesty’s Government, a crucial step toward realizing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims for univeral access to water and sanitation in at least 15 constituencies also called tinkhundla initially. The delegation included Bismark Norgbe, Senior Programme Manager for WASH Sector, Programme Quality and Impact, World Vision USA, Belis Matabire, World Vision Southern Africa WASH Specialist and Tigana C., World Vision Southern Africa Communications and Public Engagement Lead, who are in the country to review the progress of World Vision Eswatini’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programme. The team was led by Tinah Mukunda World Vision Eswatini National Director flaked by Sakhile Dlamini Operations Director, Ntando Mabuza WASH programme manager and Bonginkhosi Mabuza WASH coordinator. Bismark Norgbe, said the proposal was a, "unique opportunity, that can be achieved as it speaks to World Vision's next business plan on universal coverage." The Prime Minister expressed his optimism, citing the success of the World Vision led Mpolonjeni project, where residents now have access to safe water within a 30-minute walk from their homes. He emphasized the government’s commitment to scaling this model across the country, ensuring that more communities benefit from similar initiatives. "World Vision has proposed a 50:50 cost-sharing plan with His Majesty’s Government to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure 100% access to water and sanitation, in at least 15 constituencies (tinkhundla) initially. "As government we can deliver on this Sustainable Development Goal on at 50% the cost price and significantly short period the time...you have 100% government support on this." Meanwhile, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of conducting thorough studies and developing high-quality, costed designs in collaboration with the Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) to ensure the project is finance-ready and can commence immediately.   From the heart of Nkhotakota District in Malawi, Kasangu Primary School shines brighter with new furniture thanks to World Vision's Gift-In-Kind support. The ECO soap and FRS school furniture provided have transformed the learning environment for the 512 students at the school.   Head teacher, Catherine, shares the impact firsthand: students now have seats instead of sitting on the floor, leading to improved performance and participation.
