At The Learning Trust, we're proud to support innovative grantees like Awarenet our implementing partner in our Social Employment Fund (SEF) project, who are making a real impact on the ground. Awarenet offers an e-learning platform that promotes teamwork and digital literacy through engaging After School Programmes. Learners gain critical skills for safe online interactions, creative expression, and collaborative learning, all in a safe and supportive environment. Nicci Hayes, Principal of Nombulelo High School, shares, “Awarenet has provided wonderful opportunities for our learners to expand their IT and writing abilities, as well as collaborate with learners from other schools. Over the past five years, The Learning Trust has been a steadfast partner in our Afterschool programme journey. This year, we've taken our collaboration to the next level by using the skills and knowledge we've gained to train and empower other after-school programmes through our NPO clinics. For those who might be unfamiliar, our NPO Clinics are specialized sessions designed to support and develop emerging non-profit organisations. We offer guidance, training and resources to help these organisations thrive and effectively serve their communities. Last week, we hosted our Friendsraising Workshop, which drew over 30 emerging, community-based organisations. In today’s competitive funding environment, traditional approaches often miss the mark. That's where Friendsraising steps in, offering a fresh perspective on building lasting relationships. Seeing these organisations come together, share insights and strengthen their approaches was a powerful reminder of the impact we can achieve through collaboration. 𝗦𝗘𝗙 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁, Ayanda Masondo, 18, has learned different types of teaching skills, how to work and communicate with others and facilitate a successful lesson. “What I enjoy most is learning how to help my community,” she says. “Learning new things brings a smile to my face. I enjoy teaching and interacting with children. It feels like I have achieved my goal of being a teacher even though I do not have any qualification yet,” she added. Ayanda’s future plans include opening her own organisation to support young people regain their confidence. We just wrapped up the Leadership Recharge workshop, and it was an inspiring gathering of NGO leaders from across the sector based in the Eastern Cape! This event provided a space for directors to connect, share, and strategise, addressing the challenges of leadership and sustainability in our organisations. Over the course of the workshop, participants engaged in activities ranging from networking and emotional intelligence to practical sessions on the Theory of Change and organisational sustainability. The goal was clear: to empower our leaders with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to drive their organisations toward greater impact and longevity.
