We should constantly be in the state of discomfort because then we know that we are growing. What are your thoughts? How do you know that growth is happening? Share with us your experience of discomfort that led to growth!
I love the commitment to being a “creature of discomfort” so much! Adam’s research completely aligns with everything I’ve learned about our capacity for vulnerability being a powerful measure of courage. There are some days when I don’t want to do a single thing that I’m not already good (or at least experienced) at doing. But these are not my best days. My best days are when I knowingly show up to do something new — something that I know will make me feel awkward and momentarily regretful. There’s a special feeling that fortifies us when we know we’re going to be terrible at something and we still show up and try. I tried a tricky move on the pickleball court the other day — one that is completely outside of my tennis experience. I fell into the net and landed on the ground. While my initial thought was, “I’ll never try that again” — I tried it again the next day and fell again. My “creature of discomfort” thought: “Well, I probably need to fall ten times before I get it. Two down, eight to go.” Be awkward. Like no one is watching. https://lnkd.in/gcsUCTeA

Respect! Way to go and what an inspirational post. Ladies - tell us more of how the barriers are falling from the traditional male industries. We can do this!
Routine oil changes, but make it glam 💅 Patrice Banks, owner of Girls Auto Clinic, found herself frustrated by the lack of female mechanics when she needed help with her car. “I couldn’t find a female mechanic, so I had to learn,” said Banks. She enrolled in night classes at a technical school. “I was the only girl with a bunch of boys, 19-year-old boys,” she says. “That was interesting. I was 31.” She worked in a few Philadelphia garages for free while she completed her training, and in 2016 she opened the Girls Auto Clinic repair center in Upper Darby, PA, which is staffed by all female mechanics. To make the shop more appealing and convenient for women, she also opened an adjoining manicure-pedicure and blowout salon, called Clutch Beauty Bar, where you can wait while your repairs are done. Today, she empowers women to navigate the male-dominated world of car repairs, one wrench turn at a time. Her goal is to foster a community of what she calls “sheCANics.” Banks teaches free hands-on workshops at the shop every month. “I want women to own their cars, and owning it means knowing it,” she says. Breaking stereotypes and blazing the trail for women in the auto industry! 👏
