We participated in our member Woolworths’ Good Business Journey Sustainability Week at their Cape Town headquarters. There, we outlined our strategic role as a producer responsibility organisation and how to drive change by ensuring that consumers and our members progress on their sustainability journeys. The team shared valuable insights on the collection and recycling landscape, the critical role of waste pickers, and how consumers can start their recycling journey ♻️ With dignitaries like Thuli Madonsela in attendance, it was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with Woolworths and showcase the importance of addressing South Africa's waste management challenges.Seeing their strong commitment to the sustainability agenda was truly inspiring, and we’re proud to have been a part of this event. #CollectSortRecycle #Recycle #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #WasteManagement

Another fantastic week in #SouthAfrica whitnessing collection and #recycling at scale for beverage #cartons! Through strong engagements and partnerships across the value chain, activating buy-back centers and working closely with our recycling partners such as Mpact Recycling, GAYATRI PAPER MILLS PVT LTD, Infinite Industries thousands of tons of beverage cartons are making their way to become purposeful recycled products! Tetra Pak’s commitment to drive collection and recycling in the country remains at the top of our priorities and it is great to see how it can positively impact people’s lives. Special thanks to Masale Manoko for literally being pulling the chain with passion and enthusiasm, resulting into great achievements, and to Petco Producer Responsibility Organisation NPC for managing Tetra Pak’s LBP EPR scheme in a very structured and collaborative way! Much more to come! Stay tuned!

Our belief in keeping recyclable materials in the economy and out of landfill means our teams are constantly working with communities nationwide. Our efforts are focused on supporting the collection and recycling sector to demonstrate that materials like PET plastic packaging and liquid board packaging (LBP) have lasting value. By sharing knowledge and empowering communities, we aim to show how recycling not only protects the environment but also creates opportunities for economic growth, particularly for those looking to enter the collection and recycling sector. Together, we can ensure that recyclable packaging stays out of landfill and are instead reused to build a sustainable future. Collaborating with MetPac-SA and Plant the Seed, Petco is excited to be involved in an awareness campaign that strives to educate and influence South Africa’s youth through an eight-part video series. Petco helped with the development of the scripts for ‘The Waste Hierarchy’, ‘Separation at Source’ (S@S), and also co-sponsored production of the ‘Plastic Recycling’ episode. Our main objective with this collaboration is to help bridge the knowledge gap surrounding recycling and waste management in South Africa ♻️ CLICK on the image below to read the full story. #CollectSortRecycle #Recycle #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #WasteManagement

Last week, Petco marketing manager Kara Levy and Extrupet (Pty) Ltd joint MD Chandru Wadhwani sat down with BizNews to chat about the new R300-million PET processing facility that is bringing cutting-edge, bottle-to-bottle recycling technology to the Western Cape. From next year, this new facility will have the capacity to process an additional 15,000 tonnes of food-grade recycled PET (rPET) annually. They highlighted the importance of everyone playing their part in its success - from the consumers separating out their bottles for recycling to the brand owners including more recycled content in their packaging. Their discussion also touched on: ♻️South Africa’s PET recycling success ♻️Petco and Extrupet's 20-year partnership ♻️The need to #DesignForCircularity and MORE 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 ⤵️ #CollectSortRecycle #Recycle #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #WasteManagement

In our continuous effort to drive recycling activities and unlock the collection and recycling value chain, Petco recently joined forces with the City of Johannesburg(CoJ), Pikitup, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), and the Circle of Hope Group to conduct a recycling workshop. With a special focus on the collection and recycling of liquid board packaging (LBP), part of our objective was to facilitate working relationships between the various representatives and to encourage waste pickers to increase their collections ✅ With almost a hundred people attending, the workshop underscored the importance of collaborations such as these in growing recycling capacity so that we can alleviate the pressure on municipal landfills. #CollectSortRecycle #Recycle #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #WasteManagement
