A FIRST team has been relegated from the National League with a York City loanee suffering the fate on Saturday.
Tyler Cordner, who joined Ebbsfleet United on loan in the Summer, has suffered the cruel fate of Ebbsfleet after their relegation from the National League was confirmed on Saturday.
Despite something of a resurgence in recent weeks, a torrid campaign in the fifth tier for Ebbsfleet was finally resolved with seven matches remaining.
A first win since September, and just their second all season, came against fellow strugglers AFC Fylde, before a 3-3 draw with Aldershot Town on Saturday.
It took the Fleet’s points tally to 18 for the season, having suffered 25 defeats in 39 matches, two of which came against York.
But with Josh Wright’s side having just seven matches remaining, they find themselves 22 points adrift of Dagenham & Redbridge in safety, with just 21 points left to play for.
Cordner has managed 16 appearances for Ebbsfleet all season, having not featured since mid-January after reportedly struggling with injury.
He hasn’t been involved in the last 12 matches for the Fleet, who will play National League South football next season.
Elsewhere, a former City striker celebrated promotion from the Northern Premier League.
Diego De Girolamo, who now represents Macclesfield FC, celebrated the title with Robbie Savage’s side confirming their promotion to the National League North on Saturday.
Just one defeat since the New Year, which has included 11 victories, has seen Macclesfield storm to a 20 point lead over closest competitors Worksop Town, with six matches remaining.
De Girolamo played for York during the 2014/15 season on loan from Sheffield United, managing 12 appearances and scoring four times in League Two, as City managed an 18th placed finish.
A 2-1 win over Bamber Bridge confirmed promotion for the Silkmen on Saturday, with De Girolamo still awaiting his first goal for the club since joining in January from Buxton.
Dropping down to the Northern Counties Eastern League Premier Division, the same league as Tadcaster Albion and Pickering Town, Silsden were crowned champions on Saturday.
Their team involves former York attacker Jake Cassidy, who played 12 times and scored once for City in the 2020/21 season.
The now 32-year-old plays deeper for Silsden in midfield, who beat Pickering on Saturday to make it mathematically impossible for Hallam to catch them.
Staying in the same division, and at the opposite end of the table, there was recently heartbreak for another ex-striker for the Minstermen.
Reon Potts, who is now manager of Goole at the age of 24, suffered the cruel fate of relegation nine days ago.
Goole have struggled all season and with 25 points from 36 games, find themselves eight points adrift of Frickley Athletic with two matches left to play.
Their relegation comes despite a 2-1 victory against Knaresborough Town, with Potts, who played six times for York in the 2020/21 season, set to take charge of Goole in the NCEL Division One next campaign, the same level as Selby Town.
