Apple released emergency updates for iOS, macOS, and watchOS, so stop what you're doing and update your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.
Security researchers at the University of Toronto's Citizen Lab warned on its blog on Tuesday that a "zero-click" exploit was used to install spyware into the phones of journalists, lawyers, and activists with the help of NSO Group's Pegasus spyware. A zero-click install is alarming and pretty terrifying because the target doesn't have to do anything to be infected.
The spyware is reportedly able to steal passwords and data, as well as activate a phone's camera and microphone. Apple has worked around the clock to provide a fix for this invasive security breach and strongly advices to update to iOS 14.8, macOS Big Sur 11.6, and watchOS 7.6.2 as soon as you're able to.
How to update your iOS devices
To update your iPhone or iPAD, go to Settings > General > Software update.
To update your Mac, tap the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen, go to System Preferences > Software Update. (Your device might need to be connected to a power source.)
Apple Watch users can update through iPhone's Watch app or directly on the watch when connected to WiFi. Go to Settings app > General > Software Update.
