It's hard to believe that Gmail on Android does not let you download or upload Zip files, or several other file formats. Well, that's finally changing with the new Gmail 4.7 update, which brings support for any file, a vacation responder, KitKat cloud printing support and better performance on low-memory devices. Until now, when you received a Zip file or any archived file as an attachment, Gmail wouldn't let you download it. The problem was so bad that we came up with alternative attachments for blocked files. But that's all behind us now as Gmail 4.7 lets you save any file to your local memory. Plus, it also expands the types of files you can attach; previously, it was only documents and photos, but now you can attach any file on your local memory.
Just in time for the holidays, Gmail now also includes a Vacation Responder to let you quickly set auto-reply messages for when you won't be in office. It's pretty simple: set start and end dates, subject and text. You can choose to send it only to people in your contact lists or anyone. And it's enabled or disabled with a little toggle. Finally, Gmail 4.7 supports wireless printing, one of the main reasons everyone should care about KitKat. You can print all messages in a thread or select the ones you want, but this only works on Android 4.4 KitKat at the moment.
